Exactly. Let the people decide who they want to represent them, now that they fully understand the way their MP thinks. Make manifestos legal documents, and get a Government that does what they told people they would do.....we need an election.....

Whatever our view on Brexit, it is fairly clear that whatever path is now followed is going to lack democratic legitimacy. There seems to be a number of different positions emerging. The BXP are explicitly for no Deal. Johnson wishes to negotiate a deal whereby the Irish sea holds the border (with certain aspects probably being bordered in Ireland too). Corbyn will have a deal whereby we enter into a customs union and put it to a vote while the Liberal Democrats want to revoke. People will have their choice and it will provide some much needed democratic legitimacy. At present that feels a bit lacking (on all sides).

You are not listening to him. His legal advice was sound. The English Courts agreed with him, the Scottish lower court’s agreed with him. If the SC had decided to introduce a new principle it would have remained lawful just as earlier prorogations were. As he said, if the Law as it now stands after yesterday’s ruling had been around when Major and before him earlier Labour governments prorogued parliament, they too may have been judged unlawful by the SC. He cannot publish advice and even Grieve agrees with him because it would curtail or diminish future advice if it was going to be published. You may not agree with this but that is how it works. I’m just amazed that some Remainers are actually allowed to vote when they cannot understand what is being explained.......
I am listening to him, I'm listening far more closely than you clearly are as the English courts didn't agree with his advice they just ruled that it was non justiciable.

And I for one, am amazed that leavers are allowed to vote if they don't understand this......................

Soubry, swatted away.....

Easy to swot questions away when he doesn't answer the fundamental question because he can hide behind legal right not to disclose advice.

Just a bluster gun.

Hopefully Corbyn later on says to the PM go and get an extension and then we can get the election rolling. The Tories and you are saying the remainers are scared of a GE but BJ could easily get a short term extension now so an election can take place before any threat to leave. Johnson won't though cause he backed himself to the hilt to leave come what may on the 31st which was stupid in the extreme.

Correct Johnson is absolutely terrified of an election happening after 31st Oct now he's do or die dead in a ditched it, they'll shed votes to Labour, Brexit Party and Lib Dems all over the place

...yes, just as soon as Johnson is snookered by Labour to overshoot 31st October and be proven to be a liar (again) in his die in a ditch statement. That's just good tactics.

If Boris has to have an extension, every man and woman in this country will know he did his very best to achieve the Oct 31st date. His standing will only rise further and Corbyn and Co’s drop further......

Then he has to do it then. Get an extension, call an election and he would have gotten parliament out of the impasse.

Boris has sacked MPs and tried to unlawfully prorogue parliament, sure, but what he hasn’t
done, is bust his balls trying to get a deal.

All he’s done since day 1 is try to threaten parliament with no deal to try and lash through May’s WA at the last minute.

If that is the “very best” he can do, then he’s woefully inadequate.

That's the big worry. Johnson is clearly nothing but bluster and empty rhetoric
Oh Pete...

You underestimate the man and his appeal to the voters. Yes she promised Oct31st, and is trying everything he can to make it happen. If he hadn’t have tried then the Conservatives would have been toast, but he has, and we are all seeing it.

Meanwhile the fencesitter and GE denier looks increasingly more feeble by the day. The LibDems have already shot themselves in the foot, but the SNP tbf are being consistent.....

What's he doing to get a deal Pete? Is it close?

Everything, except busting a gut to get an improved deal with the EU.

His strategy is simple and obvious:-
1) try to get May’s WA through at the final hour, against the threat of a no deal,
2) if that doesn’t work, have a GE crying about how he did his best, but nasty parliament stopped him, under a “people vs Parliament” campaign slogan.

That’s it. There’s no strategic grandmaster stuff going on here.

The only really confusing thing is how people fall for it.

To be fair to Cox, the achilles heel for Labour is the lack of support for an election. It's bizarre. I know tis will sound odd, but the reason why the centre of the party don't want an election is because they will win and Corbyn will get in. That's the nightmarish vision for most of them. Unfortunately Corbyn doesn't really grasp the nettle very often and does look a bit foolish.

I have been saying for 12 months or so, there ought to be an election, firstly it was the tories who stupidly declined that option, now it's Labour. Partisanship aside, there needs to be an election.

There will be. As Corbyn and the rest have said, once no deal on October 31st is confirmed as taken away they will vote for it.

Personally I think it’s a daft policy; Labour should be actively looking to form a government with the rest in order to fix this mess. Ideally this would be led by Corbyn, but if the other parties refuse then they should be asked who else from Labour would be acceptable. A Government is then formed, an actual deal negotiated and then a second ref held before the end of January.

Then have a GE.
