Have they squared the Catalan issue?

Anyway you misunderstand. I'm not talking about Scotland applying for EU membership now. I was talking about back in 2014 had their referendum been to leave the UK.

I see, yes before it would have taken a while to join. As for the Catalan issue I have no idea, I suppose it would be how much Spain wants to hurt the UK, while seeing how many guarantees they get from the EU that Catalan could not join so easily.

I agree. Which is why I ruled option 2 out. But who knows whether in the next couple of months, if we get a situation where there is a new deal on the table, then maybe there could be a 3rd option.

I’m just not convinced a referendum on No Deal vs Remain would be good for the harmony of the country going forward. As I think Remain would win and then the whole debate will start again about whether you should respect a referendum. Or do we have another one.

We’re in this mess because the options weren’t clear which has given Parliament chances to block things. Don’t get me wrong I’m happy it’s happened.

But I think for a referendum to be the “solution” to this mess, it has to have 3 clear options. Whichever wins, is guaranteed to be carried through with.

It won’t happen like that and people would still be annoyed whatever but that’s the only way I see a 2nd referendum not causing carnage one way or another if it’s a purely no deal vs remain offer.

The problem with a 3 choice referendums is that people will complain that the leave support was split between leaving with a deal and no deal (even though that also applies to the remainers just not quite as bad).

I've always been clear with this multiple referendums claim of best of 3/5 etc. is just away of leavers trying to protect what they think they have already won. Any further referendum would have to be instantly actionable. I have no idea which side would win, before the first one I would have bet my bottom dollar that remain would succeed - I won't make that mistake again.

Rightio. Morning fellas. I've no idea what went on last night and have no real inclination to find out. We had 11 reports about this thread in a couple of hours, which is rubbish. I don't like playing the 'we're volunteers' card, but I'm going to. Dan has made it quite clear that this area is an adjunct to the main forum and plays by its own rules to a large extent. We've always been a football forum first and foremost, and this is just (imo) a nice add-on to allow Blues to discuss other stuff. It can't take up a huge amount of our time though, hence why it's less tightly moderated than the rest of the site.

We all know that a lot has happened in the past few weeks, and the volume of posting has gone up considerably. I think in the few hours between my going to bed and the thread being locked saw several pages worth of new content posted, and a lot of that seemed argumentative (more so than normal). I don't think we'll be banning regulars a great deal for what goes on in here, so instead threads will just be shut down, which seems a sad outcome.

So this is a plea for you to help us out. I like these discussions as I'm sure you do, but I'll gladly shut them down if it stops you taking chunks out of each other. That's not what GOT is for. So please, if you are going to disagree, which I'm sure you will, I request that you find a way to disagree respectfully, and if that's not possible to use the ignore function.

Can’t believe you’re threatening to prorogue the thread to shut down debate.....who would ever do such a thing ???? lol

Agree with this if we get a deal.

If we don’t surely it’s a Scottish backstop and more years of pain?

Can’t wait for that...

Tbh Scotland are probably gone deal or no deal, unless that deal happens to be the same as we have now.

And you are right, we will be talking about divorce settlements, hard and soft borders for years to come which will continue to mean a tanking economy and people sick to the stomach of hearing about essentially the same thing as we have done for the last 3 years.

Daily treat now, hearing some Leaver utterly embarrassing himself (it always seems to be a man for some reason) on the radio. Today's veritable Einstein wondered aloud "why the Withdrawal Agreement hasn't come back to the House with the backstop removed". Apparently, it would pass and then the EU would sit up and take note.

I mean, the immediate response is that it did, that was the very essence of the Brady Amendment/Malthouse Compromise. The fact it went absolutely nowhere after that is because the EU have adopted the same firm position the entirety of 2019 - there must, 100% be protection of the border in Ireland, and in the absence of a workable alternative the backstop is non-negotiable.

Never been elected to the House of Commons...
Brexit Party well down in the polls...
Never going to happen

I can see a scenario where it does. BP polling is probably down because the Leavers are still in the 'Boris will do it' frame of mind. When he finds himself just as much of a victim of parliamentary procedure as May was it could swing again. I've said before that it's not impossible that a failed Brexit project is there to be wielded as a weapon by an insurgent right-wing movement howling betrayal by the existing political class. It's absolutely Farage's bread and butter.

I honestly think farage will be prime minister in the next few years. Kinda scary how far we’ve came

The man is a economic Libertarian... The end of NHS, Police Fire Ambulance Service, State education, State Pension and all other benefits If we can't afford it, we don't have these services under Farage. They tried to float this libertarianism attitude with NHS couple years ago, Brexit emotional, nothing compared to the NHS, as he found out. General elections, there is a clue in the name.

He’s failed 7 times, maybe 8 to be an mp, but I think people are underestimating him.

With the Brexit party he’s made a rebrand where labour voters can get behind that vehicle, in areas people can’t vote Tory.

The anti immigration sentiment has been put on the back burner, and he’s now campaigning against the London Labour Party who have abandoned millions in the north.

He’s promised massive funding plans for the north of England and South Wales, judging how people reacted to the promise from Corybn on tuition fees.

Or 350 million a week, for the NHS that stuff gets votes.

Polls aren’t great in the sense of it doesn’t reflect substance usually, just anger and impulsive thoughts.

We will see how things shape up around Oct deadline, but if we’ve not left by 31st, he’ll rocket in all them polls.
