For whomever the latest pop-up Brexiter is, answer me this. Which of these scenarios is most likely?

Scenario 1 - Enamoured by the tremendous social and economic benefits of migration, Britain adopts an open border policy
Scenario 2 - Enamoured by the tremendous social and economic benefits of migration, Britain adopts an open border policy within the European Union
Scenario 3 - Enamoured by the tremendous social and economic benefits of migration, Britain adopts a 'managed' migration policy whereby all citizens (except British ones obviously) are discriminated against equally.

Now, remember that the leave campaign and the subsequent May government said repeatedly that migration would be drastically cut upon leaving the EU, which of these three is most likely? Do bare in mind when answering that the only truly non-racist policy is the first one before you get on your high horse.
Why is it racist to have conserns about migration?
3 for me if you replace the word discriminated with treated to answer your question.
But as i have said countless times it was UK goverments fault not the EU for not using a system that was already in place.
so wasnt a concern of mine.

How is controlling your immigration policy based on skills and attributes that are in short supply have anything to do with Racism?

That's obviously what Farage was advocating to be fair to him. Look at him, the lovely little non-racist man.

Of course. Recontextualised, that poster is "Tired of the Scandinavians coming in? Let's have these guys in (points) instead."

Slipping too far in blatant wind up territory here. Reel it back a wee bit and you may get some bites, you daft jokey racist

No wait, question For you.

On the assumption the nhs have a vacancy that no one from the uk wants to take as no one can hack being a nurse/doctor, do you care whether they are a Latvian person working or a Filipino?

Would you rather have the best worker.

First off answer the question. It’s a simple binomial - which option, prima facie, sounds racist to you?

The merit-based one could be prone to it. Who sets the criteria? It wasn't ancient history where the ability to vote in the US was a merit-based system.

The other one doesn't address race either, but citizenship of a geo-political entity.

I’ve just come from the USA on Monday. Trying to draw parallels between this and the racial issues that the slaves of Afro-Caribbean & Chinese decent had (and even post slavery still have) is an insult to their struggles which still go on today. You should be proud of yourself - I’m seldom disgusted by a posters comments.

.... I couldn’t care less mate. I forgot the leave vote was all about backing the Philippines (the lads!) versus the Latvians (spit)

If that person from the Philippines is qualified to the levels you are talking about then the NHS will be interested and they can apply for a tier 2 visa with a job at the end of it.

Generally nurses in the Philippines train to US nursing standards which supersede our own (they can write prescriptions) so let’s take it as red that they are trained to standard.

If there is an EU nurse currently available they will get the nod as that results in less barriers to entry to cross and less paperwork for the million levels of middle management that the nhs has to fill.

Actually seeing as Britain is a multicultural country, scenario 3 is xenophobic, not racist. And yes there is a difference. Also the tone of your third option is amazing, ‘discriminated against’. You mean ‘judged on equal merits’ obviously.

It’s difficult to say, I’d probably say option 3. Though I think option 2 is possible if there’s a deal made (as part of the deal).

Option one isn’t probable because of fears over population density.

And yes, I understand we need net migration in order to have growing gdp under augmented Keynesian economic modelling (which is what I believe the BoE uses). I’m all for net migration.

And option 3 is inherently discriminatory based upon something as arbitrary as where you happened to be born. So please, don't try and pretend Brexit is some crusade to break down racism.

People are allowed to have differing opinions.
Not in here.

They demand you give a full explanation of the reasons behind your opinions together with evidence to support them. And when you do they ridicule/criticise them with words like Unicorn, pipe dream, racist, Tory, selfish, bigoted etc etc etc.

Basically, if you have a point of view that differs from the majority, expect to be asked to explain yourself. It's just the way it is in here. You get used to it.

Bruce.

We've had this conversation before, but based on your personal interpretation of racism, every single country on the planet, including EU countries and indeed the EU itself, is racist.

As you know, my preference is for option 3 as I believe it is the fairest system to employ as immigration would be based on what you can do rather than where you are from.

Having said that, given the situation the country is in now I would gladly accept membership of the Single market if it brings this nightmare to a close an helps rebuild the country going forward.

Indeed, and I believe mankind would be far more enlightened if we did away with something as silly as the nation state, especially when we so readily discriminate based upon one's nationality. It's absurd. The very idea of equality is for people to be treated fairly regardless of where you're from, your race, gender, religion and so on. The freedom of movement we enjoy under the EU doesn't go far enough towards that goal, but as you rightly say, it's a darn sight further towards it than anywhere else on the planet, which is why it shames me that we're throwing it away so breezily. It's arguably the greatest political achievement of the last century.
