Just a quick reminder - if this thread is to remain open, then please try not to let it descend into petty bickering.

Another person's opinion may very well differ from yours - this is fine, it's life, the real world. Differences of opinion are not an indication to freely insult. This will not 'win the interwebz'.

You're just messing about with numbers.....if there were only 5 Leave MP's and 4 were conservative you would say 80% of the leave side are in government. And if there were 645 Remain MP's of which 325 were conservative you would say only just over 50% of remain are in government........However, as you fully understand, there are more Remain supporters in Government than Leave supporters......

More bluster which does nothing to prove his original statement that the leave camp are not in government.

138 of the 156 mps who declared for leave are in the government.

The poster misled someone whilst complaining about the media misleading people.

You were arguing different points...

There are about 330 conservative MP's of which you say that 138 voted Leave. Therefore obviously the Leave people are in Government but not in a majority. What are you trying to prove, yes most of the leave MP's are Tory, but they are in a minority in government........Everything else is just semantics......

A lot of bluster there mate which does nothing to prove your original statement nor disprove my response to it.

The facts are a higher proportion of the leave campaign are in government than the remain campaign.

That is not an interpretation it's just basic maths. Refute the numbers if you want by all means but all of that above is meaningless.

80 odd percent of the leave side (mps) were and are in government.
More Conservative MP's were for remain then leave mate. In the last breakdown just prior to the referendum 185 Conservative MP's were in favour of Remain, this means that even if every single other Conservative MP were in favour of Leave they would still be outnumbered. So It really doesn't matter if the majority of people who wanted to leave were from the Conservative party because not only were they an overall minority in parliament but they were in the minority within their own party.

1. In this country, it has never fallen below 15% since being introduced in the 1970s

Oh, hasn't it? I vaguely remember 8% and I definitely remember 12.5%

VAT rates over the years
By 1975 the government had introduced a higher rate of VAT for ‘luxury’ items such as radios, TVs, hi-fi equipment, furs and jewellery. Initially applied at 25%, this was reduced to 12.5% in 1976/77.

  • Standard rate VAT actually fell in the early years, to 8%, where it stayed until 1979.
I wasn't having a dig there, I just thought Dixie's reaction may have been a tad overzealous.

What would have been overzealous would have been for me to scream 'LIAR' at you for being wrongly informed (see above) just like damo does. Except it's a fact that the EU set the minimum amount of VAT across the board. No lies about it - he admitted so himself AND posted a link to back it up.

But the real difference is, I don't vote tory, then complain that tories tell lies. I don't call people liars when they are only barely telling half the story themselves, to suit their own oneupmanship agenda.

And I don't put people on ignore when they call me names, then hurl insults & accusations around, pell-mell.

I just can't stand his gross hypocrisy. It riles me.

Therefore obviously the Leave people are in Government

Again though I would point out that the 'leave' side isn't actually in government.

I'm confused as to why you are trying to correct me and not the poster I originally replied to as you clearly disagree with him

Again a lot of bluster that does nothing to back up your original statement.

A very large proportion of the leave side are in government there is no getting around that.

Hence your statement was misleading

I have made no intention to get around anything. There may very well be a large portion of leave within the government but they are in the minority, that does somewhat hinder their effectiveness. In any event its obvious we aren't going to agree so I think it would be best if we called it quits and left it there as I have no desire to spend all day going back and forth.

Forget all that before we joined the common market

Following todays report into the Iraq war. Do you agree we should pay all costs incurred by the eu countries for the refugee crisis and agree to take as many as possible in a small and belated attempt to begin to rebuild our international reputation?
