ANOTHER LIE.

We loaned the Republic of Ireland £1 billion in a bilateral loan in 2008/2009.

Then we have further facility to loan Ireland another £3.25 billion under the Loans to Ireland Act 2010.

Full repayment due by 2021.

If you people can't quote facts properly. Don't quote them at all!

The figure is £8.5 billion, as it is £4.5 billion to farmers and poorer areas. The UK also receives £1.5 billion from the EU to private firm and universities for research.

So it's only £163Million or £134Million that we send over every week. So what youre saying is that its only the same as our total NHS budget, or just 3 times what we spend on defence, or 4 times what we spend on housing and the environment........Well I'm disgusted that we are only sending over £20Million pounds per day..........how will they be able to pay the champagne bill ffs..........

You've already been piped down once tonight on VAT.

Don't make me do it again.

Crack on, biz.

I've piped others down, in turn.

I honestly think it is healthy to have all this to-ing and fro-ing on the issue. I think we have all learned things as a result.

No - You bloody well have not, buster...

From that bbc link you posted

CANNOT.

CAN NOT.

CAN NOT.

Now, remind me who sets the bar? We couldn't lower it below the MINIMUM threshhold - SET BY THE EU - even if your tories wanted to; but as it's the tax that hits the poor the most, they're NEVER likely to, are they?

'Waaaaghhhhhh! It's all lies and spin, you're ALL liars...Utter shambles people getting away with lying. '

Insults & accusations hurled AOTS by you, without any trace of irony or hypocrisy.

You're not getting away with it, neither. Now turn it in with your self-styled 'Papal infallibility' F complete FS.

Mate, I'm not a particular fan of the minimum VAT rate, however:

1. In this country, it has never fallen below 15% since being introduced in the 1970s
2. The lowest rate in the whole of Europe at present is 17%, most countries are in the 20% region, Hungary have 27%
3. The minimum is there to harmonise business VAT rates and it's not an onerous minimum

The problem which @bizzaro took issue with, to his credit, was the point raised by @Old Blue 2 that England was forced to raise VAT to 20%.

Dunno mate.

Just hope that collectively we just get through the inevitable uncertainty, and we can then enjoy the lovely sunny post EU nirvana that is apparently nailed on now. According to some.

The uncertainty we face now is because people have no idea what kind of deal we will end up with. Like you say, long term investors want out which is a very bad sign and indicative of the fact that the country currently has no direction as a bunch of political opportunists vie for the PM role and with it the responsibility of the direction we take going forward.

The "sunny post EU nirvana" depends upon what kind of deal we can strike with the EU. I know people will disagree but any sensible way forward involves the UK retaining access to the single market which of course comes with accepting freedom of movement. If we get a deal like Norway which would enable us to retain single market access and make our own trade deals we could end up better off potentially a few years down the track (after we rebuild the damage done during the uncertainty period then strike beneficial trade deals). This kind of deal though would mean accepting freedom of movement and paying into the EU budget while not getting any say on the rules. I doubt the leave voters would accept this kind of arrangement easily considering what the leave campaign was based on.

Tough place for the new leader anyway, no wonder Cameron dumped it then Boris got close and ran away.

We've now added a fictional £7 billion loan to Ireland onto the other ridiculous claims.

It was less than half that.

Through a UK national law!

The Loans to Ireland Act 2010.

Utter lies from the Brexiteers. As per.

Out of interest.

VAT rates for goods and services

Rate % ofVAT What the rate applies to
Standard 20% Most goods and services
Reduced rate 5% Some goods and services, eg children’s car seats and home energy
Zero rate 0% Zero-rated goods and services, eg most food and children’s clothes
The standard rate of VAT increased to 20% on 4 January 2011 (from 17.5%).

Some things are exempt from VAT, eg postage stamps, financial and property transactions.

And I admitted my gaff, which I have no problem with doing.

I have to say on occasion, others on the opposite side to me have remained silent when certain things have been pointed out to them. Refused to admit they got things wrong. I have no problem with that either - it's human nature. But if I get it wrong, I'll say so.

EDIT: After posting the above, I've just seen this from the Esk:
"...We're going to have a full scale recession, GDP will fall in Q3 and Q4 this year and probably into Q1 2017 - there's no doubt about it..."

Now this is where it's fun. Because it is an assertion, not fact. It is a premise not grounded in fact whatsoever. Like me saying: 'Everton in 2016-2017 season will win the Premiership, the FA Cup, the Mickey Mouse Cup, the Under-21's league, and will provide a full team for England's World Cup qualifiers.' Cannot be proven, but OK, I'll settle for one out of 5... :) ;)

Please tell your other Brexiteers to retract their spurious £7 billion loan to Ireland figure as well.
