True, the UK will always reserve the right to limit access or settled status for certain groups or nationalities - as will any country.

I think the nervousness, certainly among those that I have spoken to, is the way that EU Nationals are being used as leverage or a target for punitive action against the EU.

That is patently not the case though. The U.K. has tried throughout this whole process to put this to bed. The EU have still not got on board this.......

I vaguely recall Czech saying that British nationals are fine, although they have implemented new rules for non-EU migrants that would obviously affect Brits, including compulsory visits to 'integration' centres where you're kitted out with socks/sandles and copies of Good Soldier Svejk.

They can't/don't determine what we stipulate our policy will be regarding EU Nationals in the event of No Deal.

They negotiated a Withdrawal Agreement which safeguarded EU citizens, but the UK parliament rejected it.

Explain again how that's the EU's fault?

There have been a few EU countries who independently have said that U.K. nationals will be fine, but the EU has not, so who is speaking for whom.....

Anyway, whatever we think or like, there is no doubt that having told the EU, Germany , France, Holland etc that we are coming out on 31st Oct, Boris has scared the crap out of them by his actions today. They really know he is deadly serious in pushing this over the line. We will have the Corbyn’s and all the tree hugger quislings moaning and crying, but the reality is that Boris has taken the lead, he can carry people with him or would just win a GE. The EU will tomorrow start to totally rethink the agreement with the U.K., and other than declaring nuclear war on Europe there is not much else Boris can do.

He can look at things sensibly is what he can do. Rather than bleating about the backstop, he could start actually investigating solutions to the problem rather than dreaming the problem away. That's the problem so many have with him. There are real issues facing the country, and real issues facing Brexit, and he pretends they all don't exist and bangs the 'just believe' drum, which is utterly absurd and an insult to our intelligence. He isn't negotiating, he's playing with people's futures because for him he has nothing to lose. Others aren't so fortunate, and it's his job to remember that.

Bruce he’s been in charge for what, two, three weeks. Don’t put the issues that May should have addressed onto Boris. He’s played an absolute blinder so far. He’s put his political opponents and the EU onto the back foot, and I’ve no doubt he will play this well. The backstop was always an EU ploy to keep us in, it will be kicked into touch but with the right words. He is negotiating, he’s the first person who has started negotiating with the EU, those who came before just rolled over. Boris is hiding nothing, he will address the issues we face, and with a bit of support will no doubt achieve great things.......

My impression was that it's largely a matter for states to decide of their own accord, just as with many immigration matters (especially concerning 'third countries').

So why is it in the WA if it’s for states to decide ?....come on Bruce, you know the EU have been dragging their feet over this, it’s just that the likes of Spain know that it needs resolution.....
