You jump to extremes again Mark. Not totally dependent but EU will really miss our contributions which will either have to be made up by the other EU27 or the EU will have to rein in the way it recycles other members contributions.
Starting with no more grants to impoverished regions of the UK then. They'll have to rely on a hard right Tory government for those instead. Good luck to them with that.

And, if they ever recruit 20,000 officers were are they all going to work ?

Yes, its a big job isn't it. But at least we appear now to be in rebuilding mode rather than austerity mode.

I come from a small village that lost its small police station a few years ago. Since then, a quiet, peaceful village has seen a total breakdown in law and order. The infrastructure has to be put in place to support a properly equipped and fit for purpose police force. Its a long job but the first step (for that is all it is) has now been taken.

Judging by past Tory promises and pledges I won't be holding my breath.

I don't think so.

BJ does show signs of having learned from previous tory governments that were strong on the economy and weak on social care. He has already stated that social care (which I would understand to include impoverished areas) is the next item on the agenda. And, whilst it will not be the tax and spend policy of Corbyn, I do feel that you will see a meaningful injection of cash and infrastructure in impoverished areas. I certainly hope so as I come from one of them myself.

Well, lets see. I think he has decent people around him who know how to lead - May couldn't lead anything anywhere. I also think a post brexit election is a good idea as a working majority of 1 is going to hamstring any government with a big job on its hands.

Anyone would think it was some other party that had cut tens of thousands of cops, cut even more police staff, closed police stations, sold off police buildings and land, cut wages in real terms and imposed changes to the pension scheme. Or cut the number of courts, cut legal aid, made prisons more dangerous and generally made this country of ours less safe.

This idea that Boris knows what he is doing is dangerous nonsense.

I’m not that interested on who leaked it and I couldn’t give a crap what Hammond wants or doesn’t want. That man completely undermined our negotiation position and effectively stopped any sensible preparations for Brexit. His political career is at an end. We now have a PM who will drive a solution or will take us out at the end of October. The whole of the country should get behind Boris as he fights for the U.K. the difference between him and the vacillating May and Corbyn is incredible......Boris is doing to Brexit what Ben Stokes did today in the Test Match, he’s playing a blinder........

Indeed....
I'm not interested in Hammond or any other Tory clown, especially the one we have in situ right now. You asked the question about how old the yellowhammer correspondence was, the insinuation (as the unelected idiot Cummings who was briefing from inside number 10 was suggesting) behind that a disaffected previous minister was leaking. You now have your answer. None of the country should get behind the known and proven liar Johnson. He is a total phoney, like most tories. A useless journalist who admitted telling lies throughout the time he was in Brussels, a proven liar who has been sacked on more than one occasion for lying, and the worst ever Foreign Secretary that made Britain the laughing stock of the world. He also passed the infamous 'self pity city' remarks about the people of Liverpool for publication, meaning that no self respecting Liverpool citizen regards him with anything else than complete contempt. In the face of all this, I can only conclude that scouse and non scouse Evertonians who like Johnson (and accordingly disregard his rap sheet) are just weird.
Nobody should get behind this idiot.

'Decent people' ? Even by the standards of the Tory party I have rarely seen such duplicitous people. Just a few examples by starting at the top :

Two answers to that.

First, I think BoJo is better than you give him credit for and that it is, practically speaking, a new party compared with the disaster he has replaced.

Second, BoJo has surrounded himself with intelligent, capable people who are now, mostly, singing from the same hymn sheet. I think BoJo knows his own limitations and will allow his experts to crack on with their various jobs. Delegation is an important part of leadership, one that I have seen work every time over the years.

He will, of course, be judged on his performance but I do believe he may actually pleasantly surprise a few left of centre people while even upsetting a few that are right of centre.

But all we can do is wait and see.

That's politics for you. Labour are no better.

But I still think BoJo can unify his party (almost!) and reverse austerity while protecting jobs and the economy. It won'thappen overnight though.

Well that's your opinion. IMO he's a con man and charlatan.

Of course it has to be a new party - I mean, if it was the same old Tory Party then people would recognize that as Mayor (and with many of the same underlings that you boast of) he was the one who actually imposed those cuts on the capital's police force. You know, things like getting rid of New Scotland Yard, almost all of Hendon, selling off dozens of stations and other buildings. With a new party it deserves to be given a chance, not condemned out of hand because of the things it actually did, or because its composed of exactly the same people as the old party, backed by the same people spouting the same rubbish.

All of what he did (especially the loss of Hendon) will make it very difficult for the Met to actually train the 3000-5000 "extra" cops he has promised, or house them - and that is even if they actually turn up.

Boris was a terrible Mayor, and he will be a terrible PM.
