Joking apart but holiday time arrives and the £ takes a tumble against the Euro =£1.11 its been upto higher than that but tumbles in the holiday period =just call me a cynic but it is a bit blatant to rip the holidaymaker off? or in your case your pension .....? its been higher than that? the £ seems to be holding v the dollar yet they will blame Brexit I suppose?

Its about the only thing I will agree with you in this thread Joe, anyone using short term currency movements to prove or disprove anything is very much tilting at windmills.

Yes it's a bit dodgy dropping the Euro when the stock market is booming- I don't go anywhere on holiday anyway .....but my family does - my health is not up to it .....

Its not short term though. The Euro has risen from 78p to 90p since the Brexit referendum, which is a direct reflection of how the markets view the prospects for the UK economy v the EU economy post Brexit.

Quite! And while they go on, the pound is quietly crashing. Just got my UK state pension in my bank and it's 29€ less (yes I live in France) than 2 months ago. That's about 3% down.
The pundits talk of £/€ parity or even £/$ parity in the event of a no deal brexit.
The only people who will benefit from that are the rich ERG lot and their supporters and of course Big Corp. USA.
So continue talking by all means but we need positive action, like a scrapping of Brexit, before the UK breaks up and little England slips into anonymity.
Taking money out of the uk every month.... shame on you

Have I got this wrong or are you suggesting currency fluctuations are a cynical ploy to make British holidaymakers dreamt up by
the dastardly Europeans?

I used an ATM in Germany a few years ago and got 1 Euro to 75p. I went to the same ATM the other week and it was 1:1. Brexit will make us richer though!

Wow. You dont half learn some stuff in this whole mess.

In an article in the (Pro Leave) Telegraph, their business editor was making the point that the current Leave on Oct 31 stance by Boris, was, being kind, quite an ask. To demonstrate why, using just one example, I learned the most amazing thing.

The largest producer of mozzarella cheese in the EU, who logically, sell their cheese in bulk across Europe, (they have a US mate for theirs), consumes 20% of the milk the country they make most of it in produces. They sell on wafer thin margins, but sell a lot of the stuff.

They make said cheese not in Italy, but in North Wales, and Northern Island. Buying 20% of all Welsh milk to do so.

Boris saying we will leave with No Deal will immediately lob a 40% dairy tariff on their exports.

The barely needing asking question is What Do You Think They Will Do?

They will be massively afraid of us and bend to our will, of course!

Oh of course. Its just one small, in the scheme of things, example of real people facing real challenges while the lunatics who still think this a good idea bang on about taking back control and making our own rules.

That should of been evident when the Brexit Minister of the time made the revelation that he didn’t realise the importance of the Dover to Calais crossing in terms of exporting.

I’m all for a hard brexit now and when things go down the pan we can all turn our ire onto the racists and gammons and export them to Australia.

They will blame the EU, Remainers, Theresa May for not trying hard enough, the Labour Party for shilly-shallying, the Civil Service, "Johnny Foreigner", in short, anybody but the people responsible.

Think I mentioned something about this a couple of weeks ago, along the lines of the UK government giving SME’s and exemption with regards to tariffs crossing the border. I have a follow up conference this week and I believe this will be one of the items on discussion because there is growing talk of Europe doing the same. It’ll basically allow free trade without being officially free trade, the worry seems to be how larger companies will quickly find loopholes to exploit.

I know France have “agreed” in principle (and I say that lightly because it’s not an official government policy and more of a working arrangement) to no border checks (again think I mentioned this in a post) on UK goods because they cannot handle the volume from the ferries.

But I’ll hopefully no more soon
