If the people of Liverpool want to be given the opportunuty to vote on independence why not. We live in a demicratic society.

We havent been asking for one as far as I know.

It's quite an achievement for me to be agreeing with Thatcher... Then again look who she is agreeing with!

“Perhaps the late Lord Attlee was right,” she observed, “when he said that the referendum was a device of dictators and demagogues.”

Written constitution safe guards need putting in place first before the UK goes down this path, or as demonstrated you get useful idiots running amok!

No Bruce, I expected a stitch up and that’s what we got. Incidentally how many of them were voted in as MEP’s......

The largest party of MEPs from Britain have openly stated their objective is to obstruct EU business as much as possible, so even ignoring the fact that if Britain gets its way it will be leaving the EU in a few months, why on earth would any sensible organisation award leading positions to Britons?

No. But not just as a protest vote.
No I agree. These things I imagine are very expensive to arrange so there would have to be serious calls for them. For instance if we do end up leaving the EU without a proper trade deal, or without any agreement on the Irish border, then I imagine that a lot of people in Scotland and Northern Ireland would be calling for a vote, and I think it would be wrong for us to say no to it.

Because we get the job doneand because we can't trust these foreign types to be left to their own devices...

It just baffles me as the government have declared they wish to leave the EU and spent much of the past few years badmouthing them, YET Pete expects British people to get top jobs in the EU. It's hard to imagine a single sane scenario where that would make any sense.

If someone had the list upside down?

Well it's bizarre given that for all intents and purposes we won't be a part of it come November.

I get the impression that @peteblue thinks that the world should be run entirely by the august locals at his pub.

So what you are saying is go from being Great Britain to being little Britain?

I did laugh a bit today at this:

Sir Bill Cash, the Tory Brexiter, says since the 1980s he has been warning about Germany’s influence over the EU. He says his is worried that these appointments give Germany too much influence.

May says she is disappointed by Cash’s comment. She says Germany has not had a president of the commission since the 1960s. (Actually, it has never had one.) And May says Ursula von der Leyen was actually born in Brussels - although she admits that this may not make it any better in the eyes of Cash.

... what did he think would happen if we left the EU?

Given the handling of the brexit process so far, even if the UK gets a good trade deal and there's an agreement on the Irish border, a lot of people in Scotland and N.Ireland will be calling for a vote.
Brexit ignored the democratic wishes of those countries.
The minute the referendum was called it was all about damage limitation, unfortunately it turns out the Tories and Labour are no good at damage limitation and Farage and his merry band of idiots have no interest in damage limitation, to the continuing detriment of everybody in the UK.

This is a lie. Where have I said we should get top jobs. It was you who suggested this and I did not agree.....so come on Bruce show us the proof.....
