What is a spitzenkandidat?
Spitzenkandidat is German for lead candidate, and in an EU context refers to a European political party's lead candidate for the European Commission president.
These parties are groupings on a European level, comprised of politically similar parties from different nations.
The parties choose a candidate to be the face of their party, and the potential future European Commission president.

Give them all a referendum and let them decide. I think it's particularly appropriate in respect to Gibraltar who voted 96% to remain with an incredible turnout of 86%.

If we do in fact get around to leaving the EU, I would give all of them the opportunity to vote, either on independence, or repatriation if that's their preference. Gibralatar, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and even Wales. I'd do the same with the Channel Islands given that they weren't given an opportunity to have their say on Brexit first time around.

I would not, ever, enter into negotiations on repatriating any of those countries/provinces without first obtaining the majority support of the people. That's paramount.

Personally, I believe the process will only serve to make those communities as divided as the UK has become. But it is only fair that they get the opportunity to have their say.

My personal opinion is that the uk are stronger together and in Europe. I do have issues in regards to Westminster and the London centric political setup which seems to have little or no interest in anywhere north of Watford Gap.

I agree 100% with all that other than being in Europe. But if there are strong enough calls from people in Scotland or Northern Ireland or the IOM for that matter, for a vote on independence, do you believe it should be denied to them?.
