That's really not true is it? The stalemate in parliament is caused solely by the false promise of Leavers that there is a "Good Brexit" to be had. There isn't. May's Withdrawal Agreement is the best it can ever be. Brexiteers don't want to face facts so cry foul. We're going to end up running round in circles for many's a time yet.

If we had left we would now be working on our future. We didn’t because May refused to adhere to her ‘no deal is better than a bad deal’ mantra. Parliament told her it was a bad deal... this is why she will shortly no longer be PM.........

This.

Did voting to leave result in the country becoming "toxic" because of the left?

Nope.

So why should I give the slightest toss if some middle aged wealthy white men and pensioners are upset about a democratic vote?

Furthermore, why on earth should I be worried about racists 'coming out of the woodwork'? Why should we be bending over in fear of people like that?

No, we had a vote, we were lied to, the consequences have come clear. If democracy prevails and a second vote happens and we remain, anyone stupid/extreme enough to 'come out the woodwork' should be slapped down, as we're a country of law and order.

This whole situation has come about because of Cameron being fearful of the hard right and kowtowing to them for selfish purposes. It's about time we stop being afraid of what cranks will do.
Rightly or wrongly people were given an opportunity to vote on whether to stay in the EU. Leave got the most votes. Remainers immediately turned on the leave voters accusing them of everything from being selfish, thick and gullible to being out and out racists. That's what caused the divide in the country. Remainers persistence in overturning the vote deepened that divide, as did posts like yours which are aggressive, dismissive and insulting, not to mention racist and ageist. It's something that we have come to expect from you, but it's also strengthened our resolve to leave the EU. Whereas before the majority wanted to leave with a deal, now that majority would accept a no deal situation rather than stay in the EU. They are now the only 2 options on the table and that is as much the fault of the remainers, the remain dominated parliament and the EU as it is the UK government.

Whichever happens this country is going to the dogs and it will take years, perhaps decades to recover. That doesn't seem to bother you but maybe not everybody else is as insulated as you are to the fallout. It certainly bothers me.

Poor leave voters :(

Prevaricating much longer on this is going to lead to years and years of uncertainty and which will have repercussions for decades. Now that May's deal looks to be dead in the water this issue has to be sorted one way or the other. If the next UK PM tries to leave with No Deal it will be rejected by parliament and would result in a constitutional crisis.

An unambiguous vote on No Deal v Remain in a referendum is the only way to sort this out once and for all - winner takes all, loser accepts defeat. Get it on, get this over with as soon as possible, and end the uncertainty. If Leave with no deal wins, it will inevitably result in the break up of the UK. Keeping a country together in such a scenario when two of its constituent parts want overwhelmingly to remain would be impossible, especially as one of those constituent parts is part of another country anyway. Is this what leavers want ?

The fairytale Brexit that Leave promised in 2016 is further away now than it has ever been.

Learn what 'racist' and 'ageist' means before throwing those terms out as part of a losing argument.

It's not 'racist' or 'ageist' to draw from actual stats about an issue. There is clear evidence that the elderly, the well off, the self-identified white/Christians and the less educated voted for Brexit.

Retract that comment.

I'm not sure you've been watching very closely.

You make it sound like you want to make people suffer out of obstinance, through a no deal brexit. The hurt feeling of leavers dont concern me as much as a no deal brexit I'm afraid
