Although it wasn't him who deregulated to be fair.
And they were backed to the hilt by the scummy ones, with Cameron complaining deregulation did not go far enough

"Freeing Britain to Compete: Equipping the UK for Globalisation" for Cameron's Shadow Cabinet in 2007 said -
recommended that a vast range of regulations on the financial services industry should either be abolished or watered down, including money-laundering restrictions affecting banks and building societies. The report also saw “no need to continue to regulate mortgage provision“, saying it is the lender, not the client, who takes the risk.

Here are a few direct quotes –

"The (Labour) government claims that this regulation is all necessary. They seem to believe that without it banks could steal our money

We need to make it more difficult for ministers to regulate, and we need to give the critics of regulation more opportunity to make their case against specific new proposals………

We recommend deregulating venture capital fund raising, and investment for professional investors………

A Conservative government should relax banking regulation, allowing a new breed of venture/micro-credit institutions…………….

Competition is the customers’ main ally. It is competition which keeps the bank honest ……………………

We see no need to continue to regulate the provision of mortgage finance, as it is the lending institutions rather than the client taking the risk………..

Our aim is to liberate the economy from the burden of unnecessary regulations……………

Before imposing traditional ‘heavy’ regulation, government should always consider whether the ends could be achieved by less burdensome means, such as through competition, incentive schemes, or self-regulation…….

The regulatory burden should be measured and reduced year on year…………

Greater use should be made of “codes of practice” rather than direct regulation………..

From its first days in office, a Conservative government should challenge the public and press assumptions that encourage excessive regulation, and explain the likely effects of and reasons for its regulatory reforms………"

Different sides of the fence Khal. Simple as that really.

For instance I, for the life of me, can't see why Remain supporters insist on giving the EU a completely free rein on things. They are untouchable and can do no wrong.

Seriously, criticising the EU in this thread is worse than praising the RS in the footy forum.lol
Um... Kopite! ;)

you got it mate.

get on with what the whole thing was about in the first place . LEAVING THE EU

its been so twisted and convoluted over the last 3 years , every single remainer thinks that the leavers will just put up with staying in the EU in all but name.

never going to happen.

I hope Johnson gets in and gets us out on October 31st and we can put this thread to bed.

ive had enough of it all.
You want this snake leading the way? What happens when he decides it’s better for him politically to move in a new direction?

Its a far more nuanced situation than one that could be solved by a Brexiteer leader. Nothing has changed, not even a little bit.
I think the EU don't the UK to leave, especially on terms we like, that suit us. Hence the take it or leave it hardline from them.
Now its in the hands of Parliament, who as a collective lot of individuals, if you see what I mean, with there being leavers and remainers on both sides of the house and the two party leaders not too sure what they actually want as well.
Somebody needs to put their foot on the ball and dictate the play - one way or the other

Or maybe just for once tell the truth and say the whole refferendum thing was a mistake and as it wasn't actually binding ( was it??) admit to themselves and to the people, that fine as it was as an exercise in vox pop. The resultant 'brexit cure' is actually causing more problems than 'remain ailment'

No, sorry, Mr & Mrs John Bull, your ingrowing remain toenail, may be a bit of a nagging sore point and inconvenience, but it wont be helped by a massive doses of brexit chemo.

After all, Parliament has a long history of doing things the 'majority' at the time did not really want or approve of without consulting the masses before...like crash helmets, seatbelts, breathalyzers, capital punishment, etc...aka, its for your own good / its the 'right' thing to do and it needed doing, so we did - learn to live with it.

Look what happened the one time they did ask the people...However much we might love to hate them, this might go to show just why we have MPs.

I'll take that in jest.

In any other thread you would get a warning for that but you can get away with whatever you like in here. If you're a remainer that is.
Crikey. Think i would get away with calling someone an absolute cöckwomble?

I voted remain, but was willing to honour the narrow vote result, at least until the lunatics took over the asylum.

He is going to an absolute gift. We all know his political mantra and he presents a danger to what it means to be British.

And his personal life, when the Tories want to tell everyone about the traditional family and the importance of it, which they will, well cannot wait for it. I would be amazed if he gets it on this alone, we sack ministers for slightest indiscretions.

He is a Mike Bassett of Brexit.
