highest turn out in population ... it was correct.......
@summerisle Joey clearly means it was the equivalent of the biggest ever, in the same way that the £350 million was the equivalent of something or other. No being mean please.

I think sarcasm might have been supplanted as the lowest form of wit.The only way you pollute is on the toilet.......on here......![]()
I've said in here umpteen times that I don't want a no deal Brexit because of the short/medium term hardship it would bring to the country, both logistically and financially. But come on. Really? Paralysed? UK flights banned? The thing that most leavers/hard-line brexiteers have failed to understand throughout this entire process is the mentality of the EU27 and their unswerving belief in the single market and their complete willingness to defend that principle. They also were very mindful of upcoming Euro elections and the rise of poplulism throughout Europe. For those reasons they had to remain strong and defiant and if necessary accept and deal with the no-deal brexit scenario (short term pain-long term gain).
To such an end the EU were ready to accept and deal with the no deal brexit scenario, to offer support for those countries most affected eg Ireland because they knew that we, the UK for all our pompous bluster were totally and completely unprepared for a no-deal scenario.
The EU were quite prepared to sit it out, because they knew that following no deal the UK would very quickly become paralysed, with goods stuck at ports, with motorways clogged up, with the pound in freefall. The irony being is that the EU would still be calling the shots (allowing airlines to fly etc...). Very soon the UK would be forced back to Brussels for re-negotiations.
So the EU thinking was that a no-deal brexit was always going to be to them, a continuation of negotiations and never an end game. That is what the clowns in charge of our negotiations failed to understand. No deal was never a big issue to the EU but it was to us, so bringing that into negotiating play was always going to fail.
Are you on your aeroplane flight yet ?@summerisle Joey clearly means it was the equivalent of the biggest ever, in the same way that the £350 million was the equivalent of something or other. No being mean please.
Still irrelevant ; you never mentioned population, just turn out. Anyway, I'm off to be bored silly with inane chatter at the barbers.highest turn out in population ... it was correct.......
You need to change your poster name to barmpot 55 if you actually believe your last sentence.I've said in here umpteen times that I don't want a no deal Brexit because of the short/medium term hardship it would bring to the country, both logistically and financially. The truth is nobody knows what the full effects will be. It won't be good and for the many that lose their jobs it will be awful.
But some of the stuff I've seen predicted of late it's almost worth having a no deal Brexit just to find out what actually will happen.
That is why using no deal as a bargaining chip was always a bad idea.
TBH mate I'm all Brexited out at the mo, and have other more important things going on in my life so I haven't been taking much notice of events over the last week.So May is asking the EU for an extension , they say only if you can show there is movement towards a deal.
Meanwhile parliament says it doesn't give her authority to do anything without there say so and puts its own red lines down, that have been passed originally with a majority of one
now enshrined in law( that could set a dangerous precedent in the future) you couldn't make it up honestly if i were the EU i would be sending her and parliament packing.

Do you not understand the word almost.?
A no deal Brexit would have a major impact on this country and it wouldn’t be short term either. That is something the EU had factored into their negotiation plans.
Do you not understand the word medium? (in financial term it means 5-15 years)
They were prepared and ready to deal with it whilst we were not.
That does not vindicate some of the wild excessive scare mongering that has been banded about.
That is why using no deal as a bargaining chip was always a bad idea.
EU would also be hurt by a no deal. Especially the bigger countries who we do more trade with and would be expected to pick up the budget shortfall. What was a bad idea is going into the negotiations without the full support of Parliament. The EU, on the other hand were unified. That's what gave them the edge initially. Nothing to do with no deal. Both sides needed this on the table and the main reason that the EU are in such a strong position now is because we have unilaterally taken no deal off the table.
I don't know how, in the space of 2 posts, our conversation has got onto this. You have a point of view which I happen to disagree with, but not enough to get into a conversation with you over it. Interesting though that you consider it to be an arrogant ignorant folly for the UK to have no deal as a bargaining chip, but totally acceptable for the EU do so.It had everything to do with using no deal as a bargaining chip. A useless arrogant, ignorant folly. Of course the EU would have been hurt by no deal but they were ready and willing to accept that pain and assist the worst affected like Ireland.
If they had caved in, that would have given a green light to populist forces in other EU countries to attempt their own exit from the union and the EU could not and would not allow that to happen.
So my point still stands that the UK using no-deal as leverage in brexit negotiations was always doomed to failure.
So you were wrong then joe?http://www.cityam.com/249286/uks-eu-referendum-biggest-nationwide-vote-since-john-major
According to these estimates, around 75% of constituencies that were won by the Conservatives in the 2017 general election voted to Leave, while around 61% of Labour constituencies voted to Leave
