Both major parties put in their election manifestos to honour the referendum - which stated leaving the EU with out of the single market , and out of a customs union.......
For the umpteenth time:

Firstly, only the victorious party is held to their manifesto, because they were actually elected.
Secondly, Labour have been attempting a brexit that both honours the dubious vote result, and isn't as extreme as the erg.

For the last time the vote was out end off.....

That lady wasn't a great orator, but she's right. Labour talk about securing workers rights, but we're actively walking away from a huge range of citizens' rights. It's quite incredible.
We need to try to honour the dodgy vote, although time's running out for a solution. Afaik Labour intend to maintain or exceed the rights of citizen's, environment and food security, no?

One thing is for sure is that this Brexit process has been nothing short of a national embarrassment.

Worst government in uk history who put party politics above the country led by possibly the worst PM in living memory.

Follow that with a bunch of incompetent clowns in opposition as the cherry on top we are truly in dark times.

Next GE will be interesting though I just hope far right and far left parties don’t make gains but to be honest the current political landscape makes it fertile ground for sub human lunatics to get voted in.

Scary times

It's a membership fee, not a donation. They aren't a charity and we aren't a kindly benefactor.
I was being facetious mate. You need to try it sometime. Oh what's that? You already havelol

As regards the membership fee, it's absolutely true that the UK have a lower percentage of this directly redistributed back to the UK (approx. one third) than any other of the EU27. Added to this is that in comparison to the UK membership fee (roughly 15% of the total EU budget) the EU employs relatively few UK citizens (around 4%) and has even fewer positions domiciled within the UK (around 1%). So you can understand why many people would have the opinion that it could be construed as a donation.

And before you come back at me, yes I do fully understand that there are other intangible benefits to our being in the EU, but that is also true of every other EU member, no?

'The European Union's Single Market is perhaps the most ambitious type of trade co-operation. That's because as well as eliminating tariffs, quotas or taxes on trade, it also includes the free movement of goods, services, capital and people. Also, the Single Market strives to remove so-called "non-tariff barriers" - different rules on packaging, safety and standards and many others are abolished and the same rules and regulations apply across the area.'

As I've already said the CTA provides for the free movement of people already.

That's enough of me answering your questions. Google is your friend if you need any more info.
Ha ha. Fair enough mate.

Actually I had googled it first and the statement above looks remarkably similar to one of the responses I got:)

The thing is, none of them gave me the answer I was looking for, which is why I asked for clarification from somebody I thought might have known the answer. I'm still no wiser as I still don't understand why Northern Ireland had to be members of the both the Customs Union and the single market in the backstop.
