So that means if the EU don’t go back on their word to Ireland and the other 26 countries then the U.K. will refuse to pay what they have already agreed to pay?

Do you see any potential pitfalls there Joe?
No when your buying into a deal do you pay all your money first or wait untill what you want from the deal can you see any pitfalls there if they ask you to sign a document before you pay..............
May was only asking them to tweak the document so it is more favourable to get it through the HOC - after all the EU have stated they never want to use it the insurance policy ..... like my house insurance I don't pay till I know what I am covered for in ADVANCE!

These are financial commitments that the U.K. had already agreed prior to any withdrawal talks.
We have not left as yet so we have not paid them upfront - if you bargain you just say alter that or it gets paid when we leave which blows the in perpetuity clause out of the window as they would soon let us leave its a massive bargaining chip money -you and I use it in everyday life in doing a deal on most big outlays you never let that out of your sight unless you get what you want from a deal .........
same here not saying don't pay it use that amount to get what you want you have to be hard nosed in a deal not a roll over......

But Joe these financial commitments are not part of the Brexit negotiations and it would show incredible bad faith from the British side if they were to now renege on their financial responsibilities.

What sort of message would that send to potential future trading partners?

Joey the point you are missing is that they will get that £39 billion one way or another, if not directly then via tariffs, tourists and screwing our economy.

One which tells them we are no pushovers as we are heading for no deal as the sit and eat there 5 course lunch.......

Indeed, though if anyone doesn’t find even the slightest bit of humour in Farage, Hannah, Mandelson and the rest all losing their pensions in a no deal Brexit then I am not sure they would find anything funny.

Does the British delegation not eat lunch Joey?

I just don’t see how you equate welching on prior agreements as showing that you are no pushover. All it would show me is that your word is worthless and that you are not to be trusted.

Pay them 39bn, still in the customs union, still under their laws, and don't even have a trade deal agreed.

May and the Tories helping her have been the worst negotiators in the history of the human race, seriously, we have caved to them from the go and this is why we are where we are.

The EU do not want a no deal, we have a trade deficit of 90bn a year with them, they know this deal will never pass parliament, they are hoping for us to do a u-turn and stay in the EU, be that from another public vote or whatever.

The best thing to do now is tell them to prepare for a no deal brexit, and see if their position on no more negotiations changes, I will bet my right arm it will.

I bet it won’t - as you say the Government are rubbish negotiators, and the EU knows as much as we do that Parliament won’t accept no deal.

These type of deals can go to the last week, last day, last hour.

We should have held our nerve all the way through, the EU have been impossible to deal with, I will give May that, but once they started blocking every attempt at compromises she should have said we can't do a deal on these terms, it will have to be WTO rules and no deal, and let them stew on it.
