As i stated we do not make them from scratch we just assemble them the parts are imported in most cases our manufacturing industry decimated - Its what Jezza wants more engineering jobs high skilled labour = more taxes
Fords at Halewood used to produce and make many ranges of their cars now is Halewood Body & Assembly is a Jaguar Land Rover production facility in Halewood, not the thriving car factory it used to be although still successful, I went there on a School trip the range of cars Ford produced was amazing......

Toyota are widely regarded as the most advanced auto manufacturer in the world Joe, and they have 800 suppliers in the UK alone. The idea that companies are vertically integrated went out of fashion a century ago.

Sounds a great English firm that Bruce-

No one makes mass produced cars from scratch Joe. They centre their assembly plants, clue is in the name, where ever on the planet, and export/import their parts from all over the place. Hence the importance of the supply chain, just in time, mantra being so robust.

UK engineering companies export car parts for all sorts, all over the world.

But sadly, you wont grasp this point, or will dismiss it as Project Fear, Google, or crystal balls.
the only balls is who ever shut the place.....
to say it could not return is like an ostrich with its head in sand........

It's funny Joe. I was at the biggest Toyota plant in the world a few weeks back, and not one employee I spoke to gave a damn that the company was Japanese. They didn't seem to care at the German Bosch factory down the road either, and it certainly didn't shorten the huge waiting list to enroll on the vocational courses to gain the skills to work in these places at the college nearby either.

We had polio and smallpox as well back then Joe.

What an ridiculous post.
Things happen in cycles we have the skills instead of being pessimistic be optimistic all governments are to blame for most industries demise we sold off the family silver , and are now paying the price......

Very good Bruce but we were once the pioneers with the USA on cars - I am blaming Governments of all polictical persuasion not employees for letting all our manufacturing industries go -for instance we have a fuel shortage with tons & tons of black gold underground in the UK instead of Fracking the gas why not with today's technology have clean coal ? the mines are still there as are the skills - Jezza wants to renationalise you can see why....

Which ‘family silver’ are you referring to in this context i.e. the automotive industry?

Our government has zero clue.

This is actually embarrassing, regardless of whatever stance you take on the issue of Brexit.

UK has had 40 years economic and laws entwined with the EU and trouble is we are the EU, it was never going to be easy let alone done in couple of years. Right old car crash.

All industries - EG the post office ROYAL MAIL sold off for peanuts - in the old days nationalised industries or big manufacturing industries, utilities were a cash cow for Governments - hence its what happens when you sell your assets off to carpet baggers.......
