Our government has zero clue.

This is actually embarrassing, regardless of whatever stance you take on the issue of Brexit.
A Times journo enframed it as brexit for London with the service sector who mainly voted Remain, and remain for the industrial areas that predominantly voted leave.

the Eu imo is stopping us redeveloping we dont make cars we just assemble them, if those parts could be engineered here then think of the proper jobs that could be created....
it would take years, but you have to start somehow - being in the EU stops that and other initiatives imo.....

Over 800,000 people are employed in the U.K. automotive ndustry and many of those jobs are in the supply chain, and errrrmmm plenty of those are in engineering making errrrmmmm components.

The idea that the EU is somehow stopping us redeveloping car manufacturing is utterly bonkers.

I think Joe thinks that cars should all be hand made, using the finest English ash and steel. I can see ship loads of (UK built ships) exporting them all over the globe in no time.

"We just assemble them". lol. Who doesnt?

Funnily enough Morgan are the only British owned manufacturer left.

I’m sure in Joe’s World that’ll somehow be the fault of the EU.

It was my reference point! Many moons ago, in a different life, one of our biggest pension clients was an employer in Swindon. Cant remember their name, but they made some plastic component that Honda used in their Swindon plant. Sommet like a glove box door, or a wing mirror casing.

Anyrate, they employed 100's in Swindon, secure supply to the factory, but they also supplied all the other Honda plants worldwide. Obvs if you think about it. Globalisation is lost on some.

As i stated we do not make them from scratch we just assemble them the parts are imported in most cases our manufacturing industry decimated - Its what Jezza wants more engineering jobs high skilled labour = more taxes
Fords at Halewood used to produce and make many ranges of their cars now is Halewood Body & Assembly is a Jaguar Land Rover production facility in Halewood, not the thriving car factory it used to be although still successful, I went there on a School trip the range of cars Ford produced was amazing......

Much of it appears to be lost on some tbh.

Facts and reality are no match for Dogma, ideology and deep seated misguided beliefs.

So your basing your view on this subject on a school trip you made to Halewood over 50 years ago?

What part of 800,000 jobs including many in engineering and components manufacturing are you struggling with?

No one makes mass produced cars from scratch Joe. They centre their assembly plants, clue is in the name, where ever on the planet, and export/import their parts from all over the place. Hence the importance of the supply chain, just in time, mantra being so robust.

UK engineering companies export car parts for all sorts, all over the world.

But sadly, you wont grasp this point, or will dismiss it as Project Fear, Google, or crystal balls.
