If everyone just accepted every democratic decision without any challenge, where would we be?

It’s hugely important to have debate and hold the Govt to account.
It's not the government its to make sure all MPs decide positively on the right style of Brexit for all the UK - the backbiting , and squabbling would be better aimed at the EU imo - to get the right deal on trade and sovereignty....

Reading the last few pages of this thread makes me think that there should be an upper age limit on voting, just like under 18s can't vote.

Insulting your elders who have paid more taxes and NI than younger people hey ho a banana republic is what you are after ?.........
You have no idea of a) my age b) how much tax and NI I’ve paid in my working life.

Anyway if enough people voted for an upper age limit you’d no doubt go along with it, that would just be ‘democrocy’...

Just in case there was any sense that it was just the Tories who were massively divided over Brexit, the latest parliamentary vote showed (again) how divided Labour are too. It has only not come out more because they don't have to actually do anything so can try and fudge along not saying or doing anything. They must have a lot of splinters from that fence they've been sitting on for two years.

Pete you started the thread on Corbyn being a spy I presume you’re deeply concerned if not appalled about these apparentl Russian links to banks , farage et al ?

What links are these......

You’re an intelligent man so you’ve seen the recent reports and select committee so there is no point me listing stuff . You’ll notice I said apparent because it’s just allegations , however it’s clear from your response you have either dismissed them without need for further investigation which does seem at odds with your Corbyn thoughts or simply don’t care . Either way I feel my other post about the same subject feels relevant, again I’m not saying anything is true because I don’t know .

It’s not even just the lies for me it’s that people explain it or aren’t even concerned like the RS do with their players . It’s not something I’m comfortable with but perhaps that’s just my personality.

I’ve said plenty of times I accept democracy and the result but like with trump those who trumpet sovereignty don’t seem remotely concerned about the possible links of a foreign nation to the result . It’s as if they think it’s undermines them so that’s more important ,if you compare the EU to nazi Germany surely you’d be shouting from the rooftops if there was even a chance that an actual totalitarian regime had tried to influence the vote ?

I hasten to add I don’t know all the facts but it all feels very murky.

To be flippant I suppose I can see why you’d dismiss it immediately though . Reading this thread particularly over the last couple of days I am reassured just how thorough the average leave voter seems . I mean no way could they easily have the wool pulled over their eyes, it seems these are people that want things checked and rechecked . They’ll leave casual misuse of facts to the other side .

It’s easy to oppose things when you also have no actual responsibility. But this particular opposition are a shambles even by their low standards......

I asked you for the links because I was interested in what you wrote. I dismiss nothing. I may not accept the ‘evidence’ or draw the same conclusions, but I would never dismiss it......

All the small nations could all veto it, but it will make no difference. They will all be strong armed, bullied into it. Via economic and tax vehicles....once the U.K. is out, Ireland is totally dependent upon Brussels, as you are furiously burning any bridges you had with the U.K., and you will be told what to do, not asked, told......
Project fear you say....

I’ll be honest I’m surprised it’s passed you by but there you go. Unfortunately I’m not much of a linker I’m afraid .

The Sunday Times did some extensive reporting through Isabel oakshott (a strong leaver ) and I think there is a link earlier in the thread , that involve emails and that allege meeting with Russian officials, Russian businessmen and Banks which were set up by a Russian intelligence operative . the guardian has unsurprisingly been at the centre of the reporting and the journalist Carole cadwalladr has just been nominated for the Paul award I think , in relation to it .

I’m not an LBC listener but I listened to Banks and Wigmore get interviewed by farage this week after the Sunday times story broke and from my recollection they accepted they may been less than honest contact with Russian staff but also said they aren’t politicians however that’s just my recollection. They did deny receiving any Russian money or using Brexit to make any money but I didn’t like the phrase “where’s the evidence “ .

Using quite strange terminology When farage asked banks if there was collusion between the Russians and Brexit he replied

“ I think it’s possible at a low level – when we talked about these bots and the things that the Russians were trying to do. “

Keep in mind that Banks was meeting the Russians on a number of occasions and he believed , at whatever level they were trying to influence it , That’s at best distasteful. If you google Aaron banks Russia you’ll gets lots of reading and as I say it’s nothing definitive but it’s at best very very murky and I’d suggest an interesting read.

I’ve repeated you won the vote and I’m ok with that but I’m deeply uncomfortable with people working for an foriegn nation whose interests are opposed to ours whatever their political hue. So it’s something that needs to be looked at closely .

Thanks, I’ve just read the article, linked here..

And one from the same paper on the lefts links with Russia here..
https://www.theguardian.com/politic...lovakian-spy-cold-war-long-shadow-labour-left

Makes you wonder why Corbyn didn’t really try during the referendum. It would be useful if both were looked at with a bit more depth of scrutiny.......
