But Corbyn has been very clear today - he supports leaving the EU. He isn't betraying anyone.

You cannot tell me what exactly the 17.5m Leave voters had in their mind when they made their fateful decision. A customs union and a close trade deal with the EU is making the best of a bad hand. That's all.

It doesn’t matter what they had in mind. We voted to leave the E7 not become some vassal state. Corbyn has been very clear about something that is not achievable, a bit like his GE promises, he’s trying to be all things to all men.......

Hang on....Corbyn's demand for a bespoke deal is exactly the same principle that the Tories are following. There are no precedents for either so how can you criticise one and not the other?

Examples of Norway and Switzerland were given aplenty in the EU Referendum debate.

That wasn't what you said though Joey.

You accused Corbyn of being a hypocrite in acknowledging Blair's role in the Northern Ireland peace process. John Major has nothing to do with this. Will you admit you were wrong?
Corbyn was a thorn in Blairs side and most other moderate Labour governments who actually got elected - admit that his speech today was not so much about a customs union, but a same old let me get into power!
Interesting when he tries to renationalise utilities, and the railways as this smacks right against EU directives by the EU commission !
Farage still an MEP tore into the Labour idea of just a custom union as the 27 remaining countries had no say as it's the EU Commission who did the trade deals, and they would never pass it as A custom union is a just a variable of the customs union - so todays Corbyns speech was smokes, and mirrors- his main aim is to get a GE now the Tory hardliners are seeing this he will get no support bar perhaps Subrey the witch so it was just a upturn by Corbyn that may upset 4 million Labour voters who voted Brexit !
It may come to bite him back going against his last manefesto
What's next from Labour let's have a single market, and not The single market ?
He was a complete joke today!

One statement being trotted out continually at the moment by Brexiteers is driving me crazy.

It's the one about how 90% of future economic growth is coming from outside the EU over the next 20 years...

Which ignores the fact that say 2% growth in the German economy is worth a hell of a lot more than say 2000% growth in the Botswana economy will ever be! So those stats are irrelevant without considering the actual quantum of extra trade growth involved.

Not to mention the fact that the EU is on our doorstep and connected by a snazzy tunnel, fast train line and not to mention probably the busiest combined shipping and aircraft route in the world.

So even if the Brazil econony waved a magic wand and became as big as Germany's then the transport costs alone would become a major material factor. And that also disregards the fact that we've all grown up with our European counterparts in post-war economic and cultural development so our tastes and standards are much more aligned than will ever be the case with a second or third world growth economy.

Joey you are ignoring my question once again. You said Corbyn was a hypocrite for praising Blair today when he had been disagreeing with him all his political life. I corrected you by saying Corbyn was only praising Blair specifically in relation to the Northern Ireland peace process (for which the two both held as important ambitions). He didn't praise him on anything else and I have heard him on TV over the last 12 months alone criticise Blair for various things (e.g. PFI and Iraq). Your thoughts?

As for calling Soubry a witch - if that's the level of your debate then you really have hit the bottom of the barrel. Soubry's stance is consistent with the aims of the Tory manifesto in my opinion.

Because Corbyn is an idiot.......

The Tory manifesto said that we were leaving the EU, it said we would not be part of the single market, it said we would not be part of a customs union.....pages 38-39......

Jeremy Corbyn's Brexit position is endorsed by the CBI. Weather in Britain apparently so cold that hell actually has frozen over.
4:30 am - 26 Feb 2018

Labour, the party of workers and business.

Before we get too carried away, who else would the CBI endorse? In an effectively two party system. The CBI want things to remain as they are (which kinda makes me laugh about the trading with the world thing - if the main business lobby doesn't agree with the 'hurdles' that apparently exist at the moment...)

It's almost like our government favour US business interests above and beyond everything else.

..so being part of a Cutoms Union means the U.K. won’t be able to negotiate bespoke deals with markets outside Europe. What I don’t understand is the assumption that our own deals will be superior to those negotiated by the Customs Union. I listened to a major Asian businessman saying his country would be more inclined to want better deals with Europe than the U.K. in isolation.
