What's the U turn Joey?

Are you saying Labour must stick to their manifesto at the last general election even though they lost? Thats absurd and just not the way that politics works. Remember the anti-nuclear policies of the 80s were binned for the very reason that the leadership could point to that manifesto being rejected by the voters.

The 2015 Labour manifesto (and the Conservative one) had full EU membership nailed to its mast.

We've had a load more EU negotiations since the last election and the deal agreed in December ALREADY commits the UK to a customs union with the EU as a fall back scenario.

So what exactly is wrong with Corbyn's speech today?
Its for his own ends I hope labour voters like me stay away at the next GE!
you seem to be quoting media hype over this speech -
let's say after his wonderless speech if he wins the argument, and the present government go for "a custom union of sorts as he putting it not the customs union but A customs union the EU say sod off??......
lets face it he is trying to force a GE not a 2nd referendum!

I welcome another General election. The Tories are split. UKIP are in a mess. In marginal constituencies working class folk will not jump to the tune of Rees Mogg and Boris.

A general election would bring in Corbyn and the SNP. That would be great news.

Why do you even metion UKIP? They were never anything. Seriosuly, one time they got four million votes and were a protest vote to get the referndum, so what? It was completely and utterly down to Fararge, who isn't relevant anymore. I simply can't fathom why people keep talking about them as though they were relevant. They'd be all but forgotten about (apart from a few loyalists) were it not for the media giving them an obscene level of unjustified coverage and political opponents kicking what is effectively the corpse of UKIP.

Why, you will only get beaten again. You say the ‘tories are split’ but what about Labour and the Labour voters who were told by Corbyn that he would respect the Leave vote. He will make his headlines today, but his nonsense will soon be shown up.

Remember his statement “The British people have made their decision. We must respect that result and Article 50 has to be invoked now so that we negotiate an exit from the European Union. Obviously there has to be strategy but the whole point of the referendum was that the public would be asked their opinion. They’ve given their opinion. It is up for Parliament to now act on that opinion.”........edit “unless I can see any short term political opportunity”.....

Stupid, stupid stuff from Corbyn.

If you want to campaign to remain inside, do so. Don't say "oh, let's leave but then basically re-join if we beg the EU hard enough."

It just looks completely foolish. You either believe we're better off inside the EU or you don't. By saying "leave then half-arsedly go back", he's basically playing the coward card of abiding by the referendum result but trying to sweep up 'remainers' as well.

He's trying to appease both leave and remain voters in the Labour party isn't he?

Yes, but also trying to capitalise on the remain element of the Tories.

Unfortunately, opportunism like that will harden the rebel Tories into toeing the party line, because whilst they won't mind supporting the EU, they will baulk at supporting Corbyn.

Just a completely stupid move. There's no middle ground on this issue anymore; you're either In or Out - any other position makes you look stupid, because it's impossible to achieve, both politically and practically.

This is the incompetent Corbyn I knew before the GE - not knowing his arse from his elbow. It seems like he needs a GE again to wake up.

Both parties are all over the place

What have the lib dems said about this? i know they are an irrelevance but i wish one party would say - 'we understand we have had a referendum but in our opinion we are still better off staying in the EU vote for us and we will campaign do stay in the EU' actually...maybe they have and i didnt notice lol

I can understand his thinking though. I mean you look at the GE and the only party that were firmly in the remain camp were the Lib Dems, and there was no great shift towards them from remain voters. That probably encouraged him to bumble along for the last 18 months doing his best not to say anything at all on Brexit because he knows full well he has two camps at polar opposites to each other within the electorate.

Sadly he's made a big statement whilst still not really saying anything. He'll have splinters up his bum. It's awful really how at such a crucial stage in the country's history, we've got such pygmies in office. It really is hard to recall when we've had such incompetent bunglers in the two main parties.

I’ve said the same for a while, pygmies.......
