“.......Dyson previously campaigned for vacuum cleaners to be limited 700 watts of power because it was convinced its devices were more efficient and did not need the more powerful motors used by rivals.

Sir James even used the point to argue for Britain leaving the EU, saying he was outvoted by German vacuum cleaner manufacturers, many of whom make products with large motors that use bags, and therefore lose suction when loaded with dust.

“Washing machines are tested with washing in them, cars are tested with people in them, and fridges are tested with food in them. But when it came to our request to test vacuum cleaners with dust in them, the big German block of manufacturers complained,” said Sir James.

“If German companies go on dominating European legislation, that’s a very good reason not to be in Europe. If they’re not going to listen to us, we shouldn’t be in there.”

A spokesman for Bosch declined to comment.”......

always wondered why dyson was one of the few big business leaders who wanted to leave the EU, so its because of one regulation directly affecting him..interesting

Didn't Dyson just win an appeal regarding this in the European court?

Make that a possible fourth change Pete.

Is that the same James Dyson who campaigned for us to join the Euro when his manufacturing base was in the UK and most of his business was in the EU, and then campaigned for Brexit after he'd moved his factory to Malaysia?

This is a problem with EU wide regulations, they tend to favour the largest of multinationals.....

I was asked to give one example, which I did.....next time I’ll do what the Remain side do and say nothing......

Only it was a skewed example that was the view of a manufacturer who knew he had technology that could be market leading if the EU sang to his tune. Or do you think his motive was purely environmental Pete?

He's possibly the worst example you could have chosen anyway the flip flopping, self serving berk.

James Dyson has spent his entire life suing people. Getting into battles with the EU, the Chinese government, the US government. Not forgetting the dozens of companies he has sued.

Although in some of the cases he was right people were copying him it has made him paranoid and combative. There have been some documentaries and pieces about him and how difficult he is.

It's no wonder courts might have disdain for the guy.

He's the Donald Trump of the vacuum business.

Are you sure that is what the OECD believes?

Reverse Brexit with second referendum to save your economy, OECD tells UK

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...se-uk-europe-theresa-may-latest-a8004676.html

Let me guess, between the time you quoted them 2 hours ago and now they have become liars?

The OECD got it wrong about the Brexit effect, they admitted they were wrong, they then said that the U.K. would now be enjoying 2%+ growth, they now want us to have a second vote. Credibility is not a word I would use to describe them......

Yet you use them to support your views? Interesting.

Anyway, they did get it wrong in terms of timeframes by saying that the effect would be instant, but making forecasts at a time when you don't know how key factors such as how we would leave, when we would leave etc means any forecast was always going to be fluid. So basically they just pushed everything back a year and it didn't change their actual view on the end outcome due to the fact we didn't just up and leave, instead choosing to sit around on our hands for a year because we had no actual plan.

Now that the possibility of a "hard brexit" (which is obviously a key factor in what will happen to the economy) is increasing since the talks have opened, they have revised their forecast.

You had 40 years in business, never revised a forecast based on certain events happening?

Of course, forecasts are not facts just a view at a certain point in time, just like their latest view. However suggesting that they merely got the timeframe wrong is the equivalent of suggesting that Everton will now start winning in late November, or maybe January.......
