So name 3 things that we have changed......

The UK have, since it joined the Union in 1973, held 10-15% of the seats in the European Parliament and had a deciding seat in the European Council. If you choose to believe that these people haven't changed things in favor of the UK, that's your choice.

On laws and articles that have been passed since 1999, the British government (UK MEP's and UK ministers) has voted ‘No’ to laws passed at EU level on 56 occasions, abstained from voting 70 times, and voted ‘Yes’ 2,466 times.

That's a "success"-rate of about 95%. Which honestly is quite remarkable.

"Name three things", that's not how politics work.

Thats a very impressive post.

So you can’t even name 3 things.....doesn’t that give you a clue as to what changes we could make being inside the EU....

Interestingly the main protagonist in this mess said the exact opposite if the margins were the same.

But I will accept your stance.

FWIW, I accept the result. Its done.

I just dont accept that it was the best thing for the UK.

Indeed. Farage could only accept one result, as indeed could Clegg, Osborne and Clarke. We all want the best for our country and our people, it’s only the route we take that is the issue......

Impressive in not being able to answer the question.....

With respect Pete, it was a stupid question. "Name 3 things the UK has changed".

Like, unless you had been in about a billion boring meetings, no one would have a clue.

But anyrate, the post showed we at least had influence. Less so now.

No we didn’t, we had a vote in certain things, some we disagreed with, many we agreed with, but not once have we changed the direction of the EU because we would always be outvoted.......I only asked for 3 things in over 40 years that we have changed......

I don't get your frantic crusade to find certain "things". You need to look at the bigger picture.

@roydo answered you in a previous post and you dismissed his answers in one line as "nothing". You don't need to change something to have influence.

But i'll play.

1. The UK rebate. Introduced in 1985 by the British which resulted in a dramatically reduced payment towards the EU from the UK.
2. Britain played one of the most important roles in the implementation of the Charter of fundamental rights, in regards to consumer rights and safety.
3. In regards to the ERC, countless changes were made at the requests of the UK. Resulting in British researchers having far easier access to research funding than the average EU country.

Impressive in not being able to answer the question.....

More to do with not being able to interpret an answer.

No, you just didn’t answer it, and still haven’t.....not one of the above resulted in the EEC/EU changing direction.....

Not a chance. But that is a good thing. Its contentious, but in general this thread has been an intelligent and respectful debate.

If we had voted to stay, would have been in the vaults ages ago I reckon.

I agree

Shrugged shoulders and carried on. I was expecting remain to win.

Let me ask you a question Harry: If the vote would have been to remain, would this thread have gone to 1,429 pages (as I type)? Don't think so...

Not at all mate I agree with the roydo above although to be fair the demographic of Everton fans would have impacted on that .

What assertion or evidence do you have that your country actively made moves to assert change in the EU? From the evidence it suggests before 2009 you guys have largely agreed or went along with the votes. There are plenty of articles out there contesting to this fact the post @Fedlingen
answered you with even tells you this and i have seen information on several sites to say the same thing.

Only since 2009 has the UK had a hump with the EU that its starting to vote the opposite to everyone else.

Do you know what other country traditionally disagrees with the majority? Germany they have been outvoted more times than your own. Look it up the facts a re there.

What has the British government put forth to the EU to have changed?

You ask others to prove your influence but what proof do you have that Britain simply went along with it for many years until well your own decided they had enough of the EU...

Also with regards to Germany and their "dominance". Do you not think this could just be because structurally they are better off than other countries as in with their laws and strict nature that and how much exports and products they have to offer that naturally they would do better than other smaller nations?

Or is it because traditionally Britain s have a dislike for Germany and France and so can't stomach being told what to do by them? Even though in reality they don't

I answered your question. Three delightful things.

And regarding changes to the EEC/EU, your politicians followed the direction they were elected to follow. The direction your representative democracy set for it, be it for changing or supporting the union.

Just because the stance has changed towards the EU in Britain over the last couple of years, in no way does that negate the work done by British officials for the European Union and the people of the UK leading up to Brexit.

So what is the point of the original claim that ‘we can change things from the inside’ we can’t, and never have......
