As I said, I think the issue is about language. All these numbers are wonderful but just go to show that we don't actually control them, which is what Boris is on about. Oh and in your figures, while the originating countries pay ToR, that money still belonged to the UK because we imported the goods, but we only get to keep 20% of it.......

The UK keeps 25% of ToR which goes into the exchequer. 'Still belonged to the UK' is not correct as it is the exporting country that pays and not the UK. All the UK does is pass it over and gets paid for doing so about £800 million per year admin costs. That money will disappear from the UK when it negotiates trade deals with other countries, unless it is still going to charge customs duties on goods coming into the UK. It is 'dead money' and is part of the gross payments, but the buffoon Johnson wants to try and hoodwink people with exaggerated hyperbole. Johnson did a similar thing when Major of London with housing 'new starts' per year.

According to Johnson figures, the UK owns the EU £87.5 billion for the EU budget years 2017-2022 that the UK signed up to. So after 2019 when the UK leaves it still owes 3 years money = £52.5 billion. This is why those in the 'negotiating' team want Johnson to shut up because as soon as he opens his mouth he puts his foot in it all the time and hasn't a clue. Mind, when the UK pays about £20 billion 'divorce' settlement Johnson and his irk will attempt to claim a 'great victory'.

The £350 billion per week lie has always upset Johnson as he finds it very difficult to be shown he is wrong. Johnson has always implied that the UK will 'control' the '£350 million per week' but this is blatantly not a correct figure and he has been pulled up over it. He then has a hissy fit and throws his dummy out the pram and demands an apology. The more Johnson is involved the more he will screw up even more the Tories poor 'negotiations'. They are so split on what to do to leave the EU that open civil war has broken out and Johnson just adds fuel to the fire.

Friend to the UK Donald Trump is so supportive of free trade he's got into a squabble with the Canadians and has come down firmly on the side of Boeing over Bombardier, which may have an impact on the Bombardier factory in Northern Ireland. The GMB have come out today urging May to intervene and secure the jobs.

It's great when free trade looks so much like rent-seeking. Draining the swamp indeed.

What would your solution be then Bruce ?..."

It was reported last week that May has already spoken to Trump about this, trying to get his support for a negotiated settlement. I can't imagine that approach getting very far. As far as I am aware Boeing themselves are beneficiaries of significant US government and state support, so it could be a bit of pot/kettle/black. They do seem to be aggressively pursuing these issues now - there is one with Airbus still ongoing, although the WTO recently ruled in Boeing's favour on this. I'm sure in part it is because they believe that in Trump they have a president who will support their claims fully as part of his "America first" approach. Not sure what the DUP will make of it, but the ramifications could be horrendous for N.Ireland and the DUP could be damaged because of it. May's in Canada this week and it will be high on the agenda for discussion I would imagine.

How does this relate to Trump and the aero dispute......

It's in reference to the notion that Trump would somehow do a favourable trade deal with Britain as part of our 'trading with the world' thing.

if you think the EU is bad for UK sovereignty, wait until you learn about American-style Investor State Dispute Settlement mechanisms.

Brits who have had their flights cancelled by Ryanair are being forced into receiving compensation by faceless Eurocrats determined to see them treated fairly.

With thousands of Brits facing holiday chaos after Ryanair announced plans to cancel hundreds of flights to popular destinations, the EU compensation scheme to help people in precisely this situation has come in for criticism from Brexit supporters.

Leave voter Simon Williams told us, “I don’t want some corrupt EU [Poor language removed] forcing me to receive money just because I’ve been mistreated by a faceless corporation that was trying to rip me off.

“As a proud Brit, I want to have my flight cancelled and then be able to moan about it to anyone who’ll listen, before being offered a replacement flight a week later that is no good to me because it’s after my holiday finishes.

“What I don’t need is some unelected Brussels [Poor language removed] negotiating on my behalf so that I automatically get hundreds of pounds in compensation if Ryanair ruins my holiday.

“I voted for Brexit precisely because I don’t need my hand holding by Johnny Foreigner. [Poor language removed] happens, and if my holiday is ruined because Ryanair is a bit of a [Poor language removed] show, then it’s time for a stiff upper lip and a good moan – nothing more.

“What the Remoaners won’t tell you is that this scheme also means foreigners are getting paid because Ryanair can’t bring them to the UK.

“We should be angrily turning them away at the border, not paying them bloody compensation!”

It's normal to quote that it's from Newsthump, otherwise Remainers take it as gospel.......
