Anyway lads, now that you finally know, as we've been telling you for at least two years, that the EU wants to become the United States of Europe, with an Army, single currency, single foreign policy, a President, an EU Finance wide minister, common taxation etc etc......are you still EU fanatics.......

I see a 20,000 strong bunch of Germans have been throwing their weight around, who'd have guessed....."

Oh come on stop exaggerating it.

It kind of is like the United States. Each state/country rules itself and has control over itself. The only difference is the power of the federal government/EU leadership is different and will remain that way

No one wants all of the countries to be one. Not one member state wants that and their own people would be highly vocal of the mere mention of it.

Nor will the members allow any suggestion of it. France has been complaining about taxation in members states for years and it has fallen on deaf ears. They want the EU to regulate corporate tax but as the rules state they cannot an it will stay that way.

By the way the EU has a presidency. Each member state gets a turn.

Finally has the truth come out about why you hate the EU? Is it really because you are a stereotype Brit who still resents the French and Germans? Is this what its really all about with you? You cannot stand that France and Germany are powerful countries and seem to want to lead the EU? Move on Pete its not 1945 anymore.

Did you not listen to his speech ?.......

You mean Jean-Claude Juncker speech, yeah i saw it and read about it. He was harsh on Britain that's for sure.

He doesn't have the authority to simply get what he wants and its only his opinion and pitch. I would expect his ideas to be shot down by the member states and it looks like already he has had backlash.

Not one of his ideas is concrete nor will most of the members except it. Remember its just an address a state of affairs type thing. He was outlining a proposed idea and plan.

Some of the other stuff he mentioned was interesting.

So the President of the Eu commission in a set piece 'State of the Union' speech is just expressing his personal opinion and pitching for something new. None of his ideas, such as an Eu army, are concrete. It was just a proposed idea and plan.

Have you never seen the Eu at work before. Everything is just a proposed idea and plan, then it becomes Eu law. Treaties are no longer changed, they just amend the laws while the Eu 27 move inexorably towards a United States of Europe, without a single populace vote........

I don't get the fuss around the 'EU army'. Our armed forces contribute to the 'Nato army' and work collectively with other Nato members. Even when we act independently, we're in essence part of a broader collaboration of armed forces. And I think that's a good thing. As I've said before, armed forces should primarily exist to defend, and you're not going to be attacked by armies you're working alongside. The EU gets no credit for 'peace in Europe', but I find it hard to imagine any war among the 28 nations so long as their armies all work together, and that's a great thing.

No war is a weakness for some.

The issue is one of International relations. A single Army means a single International voice. Germany are happy being in charge of the Eu and we will be happy being outside of it. France will begin to understand that not only will it lose its independence of action, control of its nuclear deterrent and probably its UN SC seat to the EU. The French population will not take to this well. I agree that a unified Eu with a single army etc etc will result in no internal Eu wars, but tbh I do not trust the Eu leadership trying to bully other states with its new found power. I believe a limited war with Russia becomes far more likely and that Ukraine or the Baltic states will provide the spark.

The Eu gets no credit for peace in Europe because it played no part in ensuring peace. That has been the the role of NATO.....
