Well you might not give a crap, but I for one am exceedingly proud of what my father and grandfather (who died getting supplies to Malta) did, and I expect a great many others on here will have similar views.......

Edit, actually Bruce which side did your family fight for.......

Low blow.

WWII has knack all to do with Brexit, and the mere fact it's been brought up just shows the level of jingoism that's about at the minute.

The
What you saw was the reality of their negotiating stance, it was always going to be thus.

What you then saw was Farage acting like the incendiary idiot that he is and equating them to the mafia, for having the temerity to try and leverage their position.

But we won the war so they should bend over to old Blighty and be grateful.
theres negotiations and negotiations explain away 52 billion pounds upfront just to negotiate?
Farage like him or loath him was spot on -
Imagine a trade union asking for a 200 pound a week pay rise?
The outcry from the public would be forever if the strike went on for 2 years
He is no idiot - he is spot on any government who pays that is stupid and irresponsible!
Call their bluff or walk away!

Bruce,

Does that analysis take into account the existing EU members in 1980 or does it account for an EU wide 2015 number?

The figures based on the non UK, EU members in 1980 directly compared to the same ones in 2015 might be distinct.

The EU has significantly enlarged in those 35 years and many of those countries entered much poorer than the existing EU average.

I think the EU average figure in 2015 is hiding the truth.

Germany´s economic performance since 1980 includes assuming the old East Germany, which makes the per capita performance of post reunified German economy all the more remarkable.

I don't know to be honest. The impression I got was that it was not designed so much to illustrate the relative growth of the UK and EU as it was designed to counter the notion that EU membership and migration had dulled British economic performance relative to similar size economies elsewhere in the world, and that we will therefore inevitably be better off outside of it.

What I saw in the vid was that those gobeens in the EU were sabre-rattling and Farage gave them a reality check.

Reminded me of this scene where we stood up to being browbeaten by a 'European' power:

I find the fact that we're now getting WWII references in a week when Howard talked about a parallel between Gibraltar and the Falklands, because the EU have spelt out their negotiating position for the Brexit talks, all rather unsavoury tbh.

What the final figure will be will be negotiated. It won't be £52BN, as there'll be various contras that'll go against it, not least our share of the current EU cash reserves for example. Equally it won't be £0 as that confrontational idiot would want to suggest is 'fair'.

What will be initially agreed is the scope of how the calculation will be arrived at, there'll be negotiations over what the future liabilities and commitments are to be included and then some horse trading over what should rightly be contra'd against that.

The figure won't be settled until the death imo, as the lawyers and accountants will take an age arriving at it, it's only the principles that'll be agreed at the outset.

Farage's only contribution to his £250k post in the last year has been to wind up the very people who we're going to need to reach an amicable agreement with, he's a loose cannon, and his recent actions aren't helpful.

I'm not a mod but Jesus Pete, can we pull it back to the 21st century,
and move the 9/11 denial to another thread!
