caused the working class and young people of Greece , Spain etc. to forgo a decent future at the alter of German economic might for starters, vampires of Europe as the Greeks call them. terrible woman

In the decades leading up to the Greek bailout, successive governments operated at a deficit of 8% on average. That includes pre-Euro, and certainly pre-Merkel. If you keep maxing out the credit card, it'll come back to bite you in the end.

"The Greek crisis started in late 2009, triggered by the turmoil of the Great Recession, structural weaknesses in the Greek economy, and revelations that previous data on government debt levels and deficits had been undercounted by the Greek government."

From Wikipedia. None of those things are the fault of Merkel or Germany.

It is hilarious though really. On one hand you want the British government to Welsh on agreements we have already made with the EU on projects worth ~€52bn, yet on the other hand, you believe that Merkel should be killed for lending the Greek government €56bn (the British government gave bugger all lest we forget) that you believe they should happily write off.

Sadly it's much easier to just scapegoat certain people.

Greece have only their country and people to blame for most of their problems pre-migration crisis. Tax evasion in the extreme.

Of course, that's not to say that things like being in the Euro helped matters, but to paint Merkel as devil incarnate for the challenges in Greece is something I don't get at all.

I would agree with you on that and that Greece has some responsibility. I'm not an expert in what has happened with Greece but I have a sense (certainly my favourite greek, the ex finance minister Yanis Varoufakis thinks so) that they have been forced into terms that they might never get out from.

When someone's debts are serious write offs or bankruptcy are often the solutions. Often by then the creditor has made a fortune from the debtor in interest rates etc.

On Merkel I genuinely don't know what her motivation behind taking in the refugees was. If benevolence or atonement for Germany's past then all credit to her.

If it was to make sure the countrys future population (which otherwise was projected to decrease - unlike Britain's) remained high enough for the countries future then there was more self interest involved.

It's most certainly their fault. They've lived above their stature for decades; it was bound to bite them in the arse at some point in time. If you want to blame the EU for one thing; blame them for allowing them in the euro when they knew that they weren't ready, but it was a matter of prestige at the time to get them in there. The problem is also that they refuse to make meaningful changes to change the situation. E.g: the thing would be hugely solved if they started collecting taxes properly. For some reason however this is still a big issue. Also the rich people in there aren't helping btw; loads of documentaries about how they keep avoiding the taxes (like the pool taxes ...)

I agree though the terms are strict; but I also understand other EU countries (from Eastern Europe). They say that even with the strict terms, they still have it better than many of their residents (with regards to pensions etc).

Eventually I think they'll remove the debts; after they have made some significant changes so that this won't happen again. But till this day they aren't exactly cooperating.

Here if you want to see how much money they receive from everybody (without the loans); it's in Dutch but number are the same in every language (just click the Dutch word; 'volgende') and you can go see the map. https://europawakosta.deredactie.be/

The right thing to do.
Decency.
Humanity.
Lessons learned from history.

Try any of those 4.

My sister, who is married to a German, lives in Germany. She volunteered for the first time in her life to teach Syrian refugees German and English in her town´s refugee centre. Loads of her neighbours and friends came forward with similar acts of kindness.

Farage would have sent them to Auschwitz.

AFAIK Bruce came up with the plan for this section of the site. It's working well. If you think he's breaking rules, make a complaint. He doesn't post any more than Pete but you're not giving him a hard time.
