So is freedom of movement not a benefit then, is it a punishment or a burden, if it is a benefit the it's one that we don't wish to take advantage of, so what's the problem......

in my view it is financially beneficial(i think) but unpopular amongst the majority of population

Free movement has proved to be an economic benefit to the UK economy, where have I said otherwise?

2 reasons;

1. All 27 of them don't heavily export to us, and it'll need all of them to agree.

2. Why would the EU as a collective give the UK a deal that leaves us in the same position as when we were a member, but without the payments or the need to uphold the 4 pillars? It'd send out the message that you could leave, pay nothing and still have all of the benefits of membership. Never going to happen in a month of Sundays, as again it'd need all 27 to agree.

We contribute a great deal, economically, politically, financially and militarily to Europe. All of them, one way or another, benefit from having the UK on their side. If a deal is not done the whole of the EU will suffer, as will we, and all will be diminished. This is in no one's interest and they know it. We will not be in the same position, we will have given up one of their great benefits, freedom of movement. And as has been said, if we go to WTO we will gain and they will lose.....

They want a deal with us, but not at the expense of creating a scenario that will undermine the EU's existence as a collective Pete.

There'd be calls for referendums on EU membership across the continent if that was how it panned out

The idea that we're going to end up with a free trade deal with no fees and no adherence to the 4 pillars is absolutely cuckoo.

The tariff benefit argument is also hollow, as our manufacturing base would be severely weakened by the export tariffs and we'd no longer be seen as a logical choice for global business to set up their base for production for the European market. That's before you even factor in that most of existing manufacturing base is foreign owned. The Tories have already suggested that their fall back plan is to make us a bargain basement offshore tax haven for business, what an embarrassment

So under WTO rules, foreign owned companies could export from the U.K. and have any tariffs reimbursed and pay lower corporation taxes. In addition they would be well placed as the UK does deals with Canada, Australia, NZ and the USA et al. What is not to like ? the EU have already admitted that they must do a deal with the city as they are hugely dependent upon London providing finance and financial services. If we are asked to pay to trade within the EU then we just reciprocate based on trade value and we gain again. The tariff benefit argument is not hollow, it is fact, we would gain....

There may be one or two calls for referendum, but realistically only Germany and France have the stature and economy to equal a Brexit trading wise. The rest are more than happy being lumped together.........there is also a point though that if countries could be better off outside of the EU then exactly what is its purpose .........

Who's refunding the tariffs paid? Surely the origin of the product dictates the tariff paid not the fact that the company that owns it has a mailbox in the Cayman Islands?

Without financial passporting then the banks and financial institutions have already said they'd be forced to relocate parts of their operations to EU soil

Tariffs are a restriction to trade, hence the reason so many countries spend so much time trying to agree trade deals, spinning WTO tariffs as a benefit should we get landed with them is a view I think is extremely misguided.

Like it did in Sunderland you mean? Oh wait, it didn't.

Our economy has had a net benefit from EU migration, it's a simple fact mate.
Give me the stats on in work benefits EU workers rightly claim under the free movement tax credits, housing benefit, child benefit, etc then tell me the benefits none of this is published to my knowledge they are the legal EU citizens never mind the ones Corbyn is on about where the gang masters fetch the over - stats can work both ways!
I feel with control we have skill shortages I am not anti immigration just controlled immigration it is common sense!
