The single market when in the EU is a perk of free trade ala with the other binary three freedoms one being free movement - Yes I agree with you the single market can be accessed by other countries without being members that's what we will try to negotiate!
you can not be in the EU and gain free access to the EU single market without negotiations eg USA, Canada, China etc

"...Are you unable to read?..." Don't be so insulting!!! I would turn your insulting comment back on you, and say did you not read what I was commenting on? To reiterate: the use of this word 'binary' as if it is something of importance. It is not. It was a referendum vote, and the outcome of that vote is now being followed by the Government. Simply that, nothing else. Don't obfuscate issues with red herrings, because that's what you have been doing in your posts in this thread in recent times.

First of all, why is a question insulting?

Secondly, yes it does matter. Nothing was said in black in white about us leaving the ESM on that ballot paper. The ruling government did not get elected on the basis of leaving the ESM, in fact you'll find they were elected on a mandate which includes a commitment to the ESM.

You may not care about democracy, but I do.

If that's Norways flag they pay!

So why can't we? As I have just said...

"Nothing was said in black in white about us leaving the ESM on that ballot paper. The ruling government did not get elected on the basis of leaving the ESM, in fact you'll find they were elected on a mandate which includes a commitment to the ESM."

Which is what I said, it has been clarified.......
Most didn't really need that clarification mate, it appeared relatively obvious from the outset once the constitutional lawyers gave their initial view, which is why I never understood May's intransigence on it. Daft really.

We can, there are lots of things we can do, we just haven't negotiated them yet. I have no doubt we will end up with a free trade agreement but without the benefit of freedom of movement......

Perhaps, but it's always worth testing it in court, and now we know for certain......

This just isn't going to happen Pete.

There's no way all 27 EU countries will ratify a free trade deal with the UK, that basically gives us the major benefit of membership without adhering to the 4 pillars, or paying for the privilege.

It just can't happen from the EU perspective, as it'd set a precedent that would lead to other countries following suit.

They export more to us than them so they cut their noses off to spite their faces???
A deal will be worked out our Army / Navy help them out for free everything will be on the table as I have pointed out it's down to them the Remainers can scream , and shout about what they want at the end of the day it's down to negotiations that will be voted on by Parliment at the end of it all!

What's the big deal with freedom of movement?
Control of your borders you can count in and count out people arriving from the EU -ATM we can't do that under the freedom of movement criminals can enter etc etc also it can operate on a visa work permit system both ways which is fairer imo ok!
My daughters been to the EU - Europe three times not one stamp on her passport to record those journeys it's exactly what i says a free for all in movement

It's just if you look at the statistics, you'll find that a large proportion of immigration is from non-EU countries.

Moreover, since we're not part of the Schengen Area we have full control over our own border controls. It's impossible for EU passport holders to cross our borders without having their passport/identity checked first.

I'm also not 110% on this, but I also believe that LFS statistics make no separation between people coming here to study or work. We have a world leading higher education system of which relies heavily on both EU and non-EU students paying over-the-odds tuition fees to study here. Without them there'd be a massive financial black hole to account for.

It's also important to note that a sudden downturn on the number of immigrants coming here and contributing to our public finances and workforce would be disastrous for our nations economy and long-term prosperity.

The fact of the matter is that the right-wing media has made immigration an obsession, an obsession based on feeling - and not fact. If you look at academic literature, you'll find that immigration brought a substantial amount of positives over perceived negatives.

Immigrants to the UK tend to be classified, on average, as "highly-skilled". I also believe that research has been conducted which found that the percentage of individuals migrating to the UK have a higher chance of having college+ education far exceeds our own native population.
