Hahahahaha.........what goes around......

SARAH OLNEY was pulled off-air by her own press officer after a car crash radio interview following her Richmond Park by-election victory.

The disastrous interview was bizarrely cut short after talkRADIO host Julia Hartley-Brewer tore into the newly-elected MP.

Ms Olney was put on the spot after Hartley-Brewer mocked her party’s desire for a second Brexit referendum.

She began the interview by asking when the second by-election was, in reference to the Lib Dems' desire for another referendum on the EU.

A clearly taken aback Ms Olney replied: “I was very clear in my campaign exactly what I was standing for and the voters have returned me to parliament with a very clear mandate.”

Hartley-Brewer then asked the 39-year-old whether the fact she had won less than 50% of the vote really entitled her to claim a mandate – again another dig at Remainers who argue the result of the EU referendum was not clear.

“In what way have you got a mandate from the people of Richmond?” she said.

Ms Olney replied: “I campaigned on that issue in this by-election and I won a clear majority of the votes last night.”

Hartley-Brewer thundered that voters knew exactly what they were voting for with Brexit and the potential for leaving the single market.

“There was not a clear manifesto set up,” the Lib Dem replied.

“We voted for a departure not for a destination. There was no clear manifesto for what would happen to our membership of the single market.”

At this point Hartley-Brewer, a former political editor and columnist for the Sunday Express, erupted: “Yes there was! The Remain campaign said we were going to leave if we voted out.

“Every single member of the Remain campaign said a vote to leave was a vote to leave the single market.”

At this point Ms Olney went silent before an aide came on the line to say she had to leave.
Just seen Dim Farron on the DP making an absolute fool of himself questioned by Andrew Neil he makes Clegg look Half intelegent!

Yes seen that, not very good was he , couldn't answer when asked a straight question about why would the EU give us a good deal if it meant a bad one would keep us in.
Reminded me of Uriah heep out of David Copperfield the sneeky rat

Quite clear really. They want to show that being an EU member is a good thing, so I can't see them imposing conditions any different to those of any other nation on the event of us forgetting all this had ever happened.

Not what he was asked Bruce he wanted to vote on any deal offered and if it wasn't accepted we stay in.
Therefore the worse deal on the table gives them the maximum chance we would stay.

a massive swing to Remain it voted 72% in favour to remain those two areas the lib dems scraped home by 1900 votes hardly a massive swing they campaigned so hard as well they could not do that in another referendum they want FGS get a grip it was supposed to be a vote over a third runway oh I don't accept the vote as they fought it by lying over the Brexit issue when it was supposed to be about the environment!lol

Well yes but there are a lot of tory remain voters too, not a majority but certainly a reasonable portion. I think the issue is Joey that across many of the more affluent parts of the South where the remain vote was higher the Lib Dems do stand a good chance of gaining seats. In the poorer parts of the South they run the risk of UKIP and Labour eating into their vote share and having a 3 way battle. In Scotland/Wales/North they are fairly none existent. In Short the Tories are under a fair bit of pressure.

You make a good point on the runway and I've never said this vote was about the runway. All the candidates opposed runway expansion, so clearly there are other factors. As I said originally though I don't think it's a ringing endorsement for Remain.

In all fairness both of them sound pretty stupid. A constituency win does not overturn the validity of the referendum and I'm pretty sure Zac Goldsmith was a Remain Tory MP anyway. That being said Hartley-Brewer has probably forgotten the self appointed hero of the out campaign going on BBC television telling everyone that we could leave the EU and stay in the single market and it would not affect our relationship.

We voted to Leave the European Union. We did not vote on either freedom of movement or the Single Market. People need to avoid being lazy in making assumptions. I'm not even massively in favour of the single market, but there has to be a bit of honest reflection within the debate, which is far beyond the Hartley-Brewers of this world.

72 percent voted Remain in that borough the fact the Lib Dems as good of a swing vote it was the Tories had a very unpopular toxic candidate from the London mayoral election so much so he stood independently as a advocate of Brexit he lost by 1900 approx hardly a thumping vote for Remain when it was supposed to be about the third runway which all candidates opposed YOU could get 3-1 odds he was going to lose his seat the Lib Dems have held that seat for years also
If they win a seat where their is mass immigration that would be a positive barometer for the Remain camp - I very much doubt it!

Fair play mate. What's made you change tact on Corbyn? I know they lost their deposit, I can hardly say I'm surprised, Richmond is not prime Corbyn territory!
I can not vote for a party within a party i.e. Momentum the membership may have grown but not in key seats to win a GE!

I like Keir Hardy who would make a great future leader wh is electable?

This weekend Bruce in Austria and Italy could be vital to the future of the EU?
Dim Farron spouting that undemocrstic stuff he did today made himself look ludicrous suuposed to be a democrat no wonder they got wiped out in the last election- spouting that many deposits will be lost in the next GE IMO!

To be fair Joe there is a lot of migration in Richmond, but it tends to be wealthy bankers! I don't think it's a massive coup for Remain, but the Conservative Party look in a mess currently and I think the Lib Dems will challenge them in most of their wealthier southern Seats.

I'm pretty sure his ancestor voted for Corbyn mate haha! I gest though.

Why don't you like a party within a party mate? What about Progress the Blairite faction?

Italy's PM, Matteo Renzi, has just confirmed that he will resign if the Italian people vote against his proposed constitutional changes in the big referendum on Sunday.

If he were to resign, would there be an election? And if so, would the anti-EU socialists who call themselves Movimento 5 Stelle have a chance of getting into power?

Frightening times.
