Yes he was. let's start with him goal against Larissa and work our way from there.
Really, great as in Peter Reid great or bracewell or great as in Harvey or Kendall, great like who,he was average in his prime and ordinary from then midfield player who didn't score goals couldnt tackle couldn't run no power at all was pushed off the ball like a 10 year old girl.

Defenders at Premier League level are supposed to defend well, I don't think Hibbert ever defended anywhere near Premier League level. He was quite rightly slaughtered for being awful for years until it became a running joke about how bad he was and he became this cult/joke figure. Osman admittedly had a few moments. The Larissa goal, some showings in 04/05 and the Man City goal a few years back spring to mind but certainly nothing to justify keeping him this long.

hibbo was a relic of the old days, he got old, football moved on but there was still no more beautiful sight than watch some christiano Ronaldo clone stop in front of him, do a few stepovers and attempt to skin him only to land somewhere in Stanley park
and if you ask me those last ditch tackles from stones and Kenny are straight ut of the hibbo playbook

....I don't think anybody would use 'great' to describe Osman or compare him with the players you mention but he has been a very talented, top flight footballer. A variety of club and international managers have chosen to select him, they can't all be wrong.

For somebody who didn't score goals, he scored more than Reid, Bracewell, Harvey or Kendall. I wouldn't put him in the same class as the latter two but he did get twice as many England caps as them collectively. It's all a matter of opinion but I think it's simply wrong to say he wasn't a very good footballer.

I could see Osman actually going to Rotherham as a player for a year. It would make sense. I'd also like to see some of our younger players (Davies, Dowell) loaned there at some point this season (depending on the need for them at the time like) to get some first-team football under their belts.

I was thinking back to Derby, but Rotherham works

He wasn't a great footballer at all,and if you what to talk about playing for England I could give you a list as long as my arm of crap starting with palmer and Thomas and earl Barrett etc etc

....if you read my post I said he wasn't a 'great footballer' but he was certainly a very decent one.

Gibson, Osman, Hibbert, Pienaar and Mattioni all need to set free to drain somewhere elses wages :-) They've been average journey men football players who flatter to deceive (except Pienaar) and its better for use to let your U21 and u18 kids take their places and with it get experience :-) or go buy 1 top class player and use the above named wages to pay for it
