Welcome to Barcelonaton FC
*dunno how to set up a votey bollocky thingy*

Emperor's new clothes?
Trying to move forward?

Being the forum is mildly quiet I'd thought I would kick off a bit of a debate regarding our new CEO.

Regardless of the Destination Kirkby debate (which someone will bring up), who thinks Elstone is actually trying to push the club forward or is just Wyness in disguise?

To me he seems like more of an outgoing and feedback based CEO than Wyness was, even in his limited time on the job. Elstone seems to be communicating regularly on progessing the
club IMO.

Where as Wyness would sit back and plough on, Elstone seems to have gone out and bite the bullet. He went on the media offensive over DK (maybe because he had to) and took the brunt of the questions fired at him from the opposition, especially at the EGM.

He's actively engaging the official site with updates a blog on a regular basis as well as what he has planned for the future. He's taken part in web-chats, fangroups, phone-ins (albeit filtered), and probably given the okay to the club card that was announced.

Now, whether or not you agree with what he's doing or where he's going - do you think he's going to be good for the club in the long run?

I think he will be. And he seems like a bloody nice bloke.

Communication is a 2 way thing. Will he listen to the fans are just try to pacify them?

I would like, for every year, a list of fans suggestions that the club have taken on board. That will tell us about how much they listen to us.

He's enjoying a honeymoon period when all things are on hold until the stadium decision is out of the way. He'll earn his crust after that point if the go ahead is given. If it isn't, he's going to have to start building the bridges he's been busy burning of late. What's he done up to this stage other than, as you imply, given a fractionally better PR spin to the policies of his predecessor? He looks like the usual CEO material at Everton - a dog Bill buys so he doesn't have to bark himself.

I think its got to work both ways. They ask fans for suggestions it would need to be condensed and filtered to specifics because alot of fans do come out with a whole lot of rubbish.

It would have to be away from the business-end of the club. I'm not a business man, and probably 80-90% of fans who turn up per week arent business men, so fan suggestions on how the club is ran on a business sense they wouldnt listen to. I'd much prefer the club running the club.

I dont ask my bank how they run their business but I know they do take on board customer service and how they can give back to the customer, which would be a good thing for the club to do - more survays, research etc.

I agree communication is a 2 way street. But to me I feel Elstone's doing a good job in keeping the fans updated and seems to be trying to progress the club. Its early days yet so more fan feedback (which I'm sure he's said he wants more of) will factor heavily during next season.

I take you're not a fan then? :)

So Empies New Clobber for you then.

I think he has a big job on his hands to improve the club commercially. I was a little disappointed by his announcement recently that the club would primarily be targeting the domestic market for growth as there is huge potential overseas, and I think income growth would be far more palatable to people if it was spread over a wider range of 'customers' than getting more money from the current customer base.

I like that he's making himself available via the OS though, albeit primarily in a broadcast sense at the moment. Time will tell though I guess.

He's got the CV which makes me think he knows what he's doing, and he's talking the right talk he may turn out being good, alternatively he may be a PR man.

Unfortunately I don't see how much he can do significantly. 70-80% of our revenue goes to Moyes, the rest goes on taxes, insurance, maintenance etc. By the time it gets to him it's minimal, so he's basically acting on a zero budget, I'd actually rate his job as being harder than Moyes'.

I agree with Bruce and School there. Maybe I'm taken in by the PR spin, the club has an agender and he has to uphold the agender as its his job.

But to me he seems to be trying different ideas and approaches than Wyness did, or at least he's making it out that he is. And if he is working on a limited budget then his task is going to harder.

It does seem that he wants to get some wheels in motion though. Time will tell like.

he's already a big improvement on what went before, but it'll be a while yet until any kind of judgement can be made. i'm hoping that the decision to focus on the domestic market means that he is going to try & get the commercial operation working properly at last. if he can do that i believe the club could experience rapid growth in revenue initially here & then abroad. whatever happens regarding the kirkby proposal, we're going to need that extra cash.

He's an improvement on Wyness and he seems to have made incremental improvement on certain things which weren't working particularly well from a fan's point of view (website, ticketing).

I'd rather have him talking in public than BK making a tit of himself, but apart from that I agree (again?!) with davek - we'll see his real worth, or lack of it, with Kirkby or the aftermath of a negative decision.

Not meant to be a funny with him following Wyness, but he appears a bit lightweight, although nice enough.

Hes savy praticularly with the media, anyone notice how many times weve been on tv this season, useing former contacts in that feild i feel.

The time to judge will be in a year or so, lets see how he does int eh transfer window!

He only does negotiating during the window, he doesn't control the coffers IMO because we haven't got any coffers to piss in.
