I'm proud though that we gave Europe a right proper go this season. If it costs us a crap league position like 13th or whatever then so be it. Onward and upward.

Oh well that's okay then. Spurs are 20 points better off and they've played the same amount of games in Europe plus the league cup. We were also far better than them last season.

Kenwright will be proud of Booby. He has managed our expectations back down to mediocrity phenomenally well. Maybe next year we can win a top 10 trophy (as long as we are in an incredible moment of our football)

We were looking ok at 1-1 last night, but to gift them 2 goals like that was absolutely criminal. The team went to bits again after that suicidal 2 minutes, feel sorry for the fans who travelled. Need to secure top flight status asap and then Martinez can maybe try out some different players/systems in preparation for next season. There will be no Europa League excuse next season so we have to be challenging top 6, a cup run would be nice too!

....mid table mediocracy might be a good starting point.

yes, just for a fleeting few months, Everton started getting ideas above their station. Trips to Germany, France, Switzerland?...ridiculous. Excursions to Stoke and sunderland (perhaps under lights!!) are much more exotic...make it happen Bobby! What's that?...oh, you have

Well what the hell happened there, a wrongly picked team and who now picks the team is Martinez or Jones his side kick.? as it surely looks to me it's Jones always on the touch line getting his five pennece in so we are now being coached by a a [Poor language removed] wit (Jones) they even looked they were arguing on the touchline when we beat Newcastle after going two up, help me please evertonionians this can't go on a manager with a pair of balls is now needed .... am I wrong who the [Poor language removed] knows

Two observations on the game.

Firstly, all the luck we'd had so far in this competition (last minute equaliser at Krosnador after being totally outplayed; somehow ending up with a 4-1 win at home to W'sburg; W'sburg having a goal early on wrongly disallowed in the return game) came back big style to even up.

Secondly, Kiev were the first team in the EL to do their homework on us. At GP they played short passes and didn't press our back line; last night they reversed this -- they pushed right up on Alcaraz and Jagielka so we couldn't build anything from the back, and they ditched the short passing game and replaced it with a pump it forward approach. Martinez was totally caught out. He was undoubtedly expecting them to use a tippy-tappy approach. The direct approach was the last thing he'd have expected. Can't criticise him for not seeing it coming -- but his lack of reaction to it on the day showed once again that he never has a Plan B.

This bloke is picking our team Everton appointed Graeme Jones as assistant to Roberto Martinez in the summer of 2013, with the pair renewing their partnership for a third time.

They had previously worked together at Wigan and Swansea - where Martinez cut his managerial teeth.

Jones and Martinez were first in tandem when the Spaniard was Wigan's midfield ball-winner and Jones was their prolific striker.

The Latics were one of several lower league and Scottish outfits who enjoyed Jones’ services during a 14-year professional career.

He also played for Bridlington Town, Doncaster, St Johnstone, Southend, Boston United, Bury, Clyde and Hamilton Academical.

After retiring from playing he stayed at Hamilton as assistant manager before rejoining Martinez when he took the reins at Swansea in 2007.

He then followed the manager to Wigan where he helped them win the FA Cup in 2013.
