2024/25 Dwight McNeil

Gordon plays in a team that creates a load of chances and given him many tap ins. He has developed as a player since leaving Everton but yeah he isn't scoring double figures over a season in an Everton team managed by Dyche.

Ndaiye has scored 6 league goals this season same as Gordon and had to mostly create his own chances. McNeil has had many effective and influential games for Everton. As a pair I'm taking those two over Gordon all day long.

If you take away Gordon's pace and impressive fitness levels and focus in on the core skills of passing and shooting
Yeah if you take away any players two best attributes then he'll not be as good, but that's like saying if you gave McNeil pace like Gordon and a right foot like Beckham he'd be a quality player 😂
then you have a poor finisher on the whole and a fairly average passer of the ball. His main strength is pressing and he's very good at doing it.

But he isn't a Bowen or Saka who are genuine game changers as wide players. His first touch and instant decision making is still lacking in my view. He often finds himself in good positions sometimes due to his own good work yet he will do nothing with the ball.

Exactly as @bluestevon says above. It’s no co-incidence he plays in a team that creates loads of chances.

They do that because they press high and counter attack quickly. Gordon is a key part of that, whilst McNeil can’t do either.
One will play his career in the top third of the Prem, and one in the bottom third, for a reason.

It’s hard to tell if that’s him just coming round from a general anaesthetic or if it’s just his normal grid.

….possibly a better option than we currently have at RW or as a no10.
His problem at right wing is, and has always been, his borderline ridiculous one-footedness makes him really, really predictable there. He also wouldn't fit in the pseudo right wing/right wingback that our current system employs.

More of an argument as a number 10, but his lack of athleticism etc means that I reckon you're more likely to see Doucoure or Alcaraz there.

Generally speaking though, he's a useful player to have around. There aren't many better set piece takers in the league.

If Moyes could fit him in somehow, he'd be an asset but I don't think he fits the way we are currently playing.

Morgan Rogers is another. Different level to Gordon who is essentially just a runner.

Thought he had played poorly before his injury tbh. Not that anyone else has been much better. Probably the cleanest striker of the ball in our team but not sure he’s been missed that much. Would he play instead of Lindstrom?
I would say play the number 10 role, but with Charlie now here who knows. He also seems to be the only one at the club who can deliver good set pieces. We are a big team and should be scoring more from corners and free kicks.

But the attributes that make him good are physical no football brain/IQ, no picture in his head, zero awareness. His finishing is gash and passing isn't much better. You probably have posters of Traore and Doucoure on your wall...

I prefer actual footballers like Zidane or Pirlo who don't rely on pace to actually have any relevance or influence during a game of football
