Duncan Ferguson

When will people realise it depends on the person?

Sure, Ball, Dean, Sharp and so on may go down as legends, but I know I didn't remember them.

I do remember Dunc and obviously Cahill, however, so to me the first is a legend, and no doubt the latter will be.

It's a bit childish arguing over the semantics; what makes someone a "legend" or an "idol" etc. It's whatever you feel. Some of you might class Carsley as a legend, whereas others think he was badly gash. No one is right -- deal with it.

So your trying to tell me that if somone really liked brett angel thats he's a legend....

Have a word hey.

This is a bug bear of mine. Why oh why do people think that good players would make good managers? It baffles me completely. It kinda suggests that any sort of coaching qualification is a waste of time. Ditto any understanding of the financial side of the game, or more general management of a group of individuals. It's like people think motivation is as simple as grabbing someone round the neck and giving them a shake. Merde.

I can mate, but they are normally younger supporters who have never seen any decent players in the royal blue.

Well, replace decent with world class, and I agree.

But then what about lower league clubs? Their fans will have legendary players in their minds -- yet they might have never even seen their team reach the top flight, so said players couldn't have been great. But there's more to it -- passion, pride, love for the club. In those respects Duncan was a legend. No one was a bigger Evertonian than Ferguson, so I stand by what I said -- he is a legend to me.

At least the guy is responsible for the loudest roar to ever come from a collective of 35'000 people.

Fair play mate, he was a the right player for the right time. Everyone entitled to an opinion, i cheered his goals as loud as every one else. And he certainly made watching Everton better at a time we were fukkin awful. So i do love the guy and the way he was and the wa he'd die for the club. Just not a legend for me.

I love him more than I love any player ever, but i think that's to do with my age, at 25 i was too young for the great sides and a little too old to idolise anyone in the current crop, if i was slightly younger Tim Cahill (who im not doubting is a better player and servant) would be my hero

Sorry to upset you mate, but when Dunc was at Everton. I went everywhere home and away. he just never turned up. He was a big game player really. When he was up for it, he was unplayable. But he never turned up that often. He was especially [Poor language removed] away from home.

At least cahill gives you the same every time he plays.

That sums it up for me, his passion and effort wasn't what it's made out to be. I remember lots of games where he was static, lazy and uninterested in making an impact. Big games where his forte, when he was on form he was unplayable, a very complete centre forward. I've said it before, Big Dunc had world class ability, he could have been so much more.
