Ringo - bet you're sorry you wonWatched "A Hard Day's Night" last night with my son - had totally forgotten about the pompous man on the train -
"Don't take that tone with me, young man. I fought the war for your sort"
Their predecessors were; thats how Hitler was able to overrun France (and the rest).
Not a lot of people know this.Well that and a large, highly organised, mechanised army and airforce.......

Yes, but the strike force against France and Belgium in May 1940 was highly mechanised and used new tactics evolved by general Guderian. The conquest of France didn't come easily. The Germans had 57000 casualties in the campaign. So much for the surrender taunt. Not a lot of people know this.

The WWII German Army was 80% Horse Drawn; Business Lessons from History
The bulk of the German Army—the dough feet of the normal infantry divisions—moved on shank's mare. The rifle companies' transport consisted of three-horse wagons, on which the troops loaded their packs, as did this outfit on campaign in Russia in the summer of 1941.www.zdnet.com

Agreed, allied tanks were technically superior to the panzers of that era. Problem was that the French high command were using them as in 1918. Totally outmanouvered by the Germans. The British and French were more mechanized than the Germans in 1940 - in fact, the Allies had over 1,000 more tanks than the Germans; French heavy tanks in particular were qualitatively superior. Poor Allied tactics and leadership, coupled with German air superiority, was what lost the Battle for France.
