Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

Who was using misogyny as the excuse for her loss? I don't recall seeing that.

ähm...Hillary Clinton herself for a start. This report from a very pro-Hillary publication:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/apr/06/hillary-clinton-interview-election-russia-misogyny

...and the Russians too, of course. She's famous for blaming everything but herself.

And this from ABC:

In a question-and-answer-session with CNN's Christiane Amanpour, Mrs Clinton said she thought misogyny was also a factor.

"I do think it played a role," she said, adding that misogyny is "very much a part of the landscape politically, socially and economically".

thanks...will take a look.

No blame implied. It's no person's fault that life is suffering. There is much less suffering than there used to be. Trump can't fix it all, and getting rid of Trump won't fix it either.

All I can do is fix myself up. It's all any of us can do. Even in an earthly utopia you eventually die, you know. So will everyone you know and love. There is suffering and pain on the road to that inevitability. It's a big reason religion is a worldwide human phenomenon. Mankind won't shed that skin so easily.

I'm what you would call a "fixer-upper" for sure. I haven't said anything about Obama for months. It'll be okay. Really.

Can't argue with you on that.

This is a really weird incident, not least that the neigbour has only been charged with 4th degree assault which seems trivial given Paul's injuries

Paul looked to be supporting the tax bill, if he is too ill to attend the Senate that might be a factor in any close vote.

What in the holy hell is he doing to those Rice Crispys? Or is that Kix?

For me Cheerios are far more MAGA.

In all seriousness what the hell are we witnessing.

Possibly the end of amicable US-Japan relations.

Or maybe just a grown child with no empathy and self-control try talking to people who speak different languages. How do you ask for ketchup on your steak in Japanese?

Christ I was going to go the Koi route with regards to American breakfast cereals...I wilted thinking I might be being even more insensitive to something.

The conservatives win in this moment.

Indeed. It's why the older one gets, the more conservative your political views become.

I'm getting more liberal the older I get, due in large part to the extreme social conservatism that has consumed 'the right' and the flagrant disregard for anything equally close to what could be regarded as a fact. So yes, you complain about this debate being framed in terms of right and wrong, but fact checkers around the world have shown quite clearly that an awful lot of what the 'populist right' have been saying is utter nonsense. When there is more chance that what someone says is wrong than right, that's bad enough, but when those politicians are willfully distorting facts then that is frankly appalling.

And please, don't trot out "all sides lie" because it's nonsense. The populists that have sprung up around the world have made a living out of lying and do so 3/4x as much as the more mainstream political establishment, who weren't exactly paragons of virtue to begin with. That isn't ignorance, that is deliberately misleading of people who aren't willing or able to critically analyze a statement.

This isn't even a 'right vs left' issue for me, as I'm sure most on the left would kill for Mitt Romney to be in charge right now. It's about sensible vs nonsensical politics, and the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

We disagree on this, Bruce. There are just as many examples of 'the other side' lying, in recent history most famously Tony Blair and the 45-minute imminent threat: a lie which cost untold thousands of innocent lives and still has horrible repercussions today.

Even more recently we are fed wilful distortions by the liberal media on matters refugees and identity politics. The rightist populist movement has become more 'populist' as a direct result of such distortions. The clue is also in the name: "populist" = popular with the people. Not for nothing do these movements appeal to the average citizen.

A Brexit-flavoured example is the 350m NHS figure which appeared on the Brexit Bus: both sides wilfully distorting facts to sully the other side. You'd never know the 350m was in its own way accurate, albeit gross rather than net, by reading the liberal media's incessant condemnation of said figure as an 'outright lie'. You'd also never know that although the net figure (somewhere between 200-250m) would mostly come back to Britain under the EU, it would be the EU deciding where it went (farming, unis, science etc). You'd just think the number was an 'outright lie'. The reporting should've been clear that the idea of the Brexit Bus campaign was it wanted to take back control of how to spend that sum of money (for example spend it on the NHS).

Both sides are at it and always have been, but for some reason in the internet age we've been less inclined to admit this to ourselves.

You're a smart fellow so it's difficult to see how you can be so taken in by things.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...ing-hillary-clinton-donald-trump-truth-o-met/ - nearly 70% of all Trump said was at the very least 'partly false'. This compares to 26% for Clinton.

A report on the Brexit debate found a similarly poor grasp of facts - https://fullfact.org/media/uploads/leave-remain-the-facts-behind-the-claims.pdf

That's before we get onto the frankly appalling whoppers told in places like Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, especially around Muslims.

The older I get the more inclined I am to think politics is less about right vs left and more about being good in government and being awful. The Tories are awful, Trump is awful, and such disregard for reality does little to help matters, and when it's deliberate disregard for reality that's no better than propaganda.
