What if no action is taken, it then becomes gesture politics. What action is wanted, by when and to be undertaken by whom. Because of Trump, it got worldwide recognition, fine so everyone is now looking, but what happens next because people will soon get fed up with it and it will polarise opinion....
Black Lives Matter have quite a few ideas if you are open to considering them

Maybe you will go and read up on Jim Crow laws, civil rights, Black Lives Matters, read up on the disproportionate number of black prisoners in US prisons, read about how private prisons provide free labor that is predominintaly black, how the legal slavery was replaced by legal mass incarceration, read about how black kids have far less opportunity than white kids no matter how smart they are, read up on how schools in southern states are beginning to segregate again, read about efforts to restrict the black vote by gerrymandering districts and imposing strict laws that alienate the poorest voters, read about the likes of Richard Spencer and how main stream politics is beginning to embrace white supremacy.

If, for one second, you look at this as something other than disrespecting an anthem and ask yourself why it's happening, then theres progress.

Here's a good place to start, watch 'The 13th'

This has always bothered me about the Republicans/conservative supporters. This is a party clearly all about the 1% yet the majority of their supporters get shafted by them with every administration, congress and senate they are in control off.
It's b/c they care more about the "social/cultural" issues than anything economic. It's clear given the current state of affairs

Yeah the more i have lived in this country and the more i have followed politics the more i see that about them. Get bent out of shape when someone suggests changing a tradition, an antiquated rule or law or even simply allowing certain folks a better live but perfectly ok with being shafted as long as the status quo is kept right?

Exactly. It's a sickness. Any change is viewed as taking some from them, or changing their values, etc, when the only thing that's actually a piece of pie getting doled out differently would be economic change. Social/cultural change is viewed as a zero sum game - i.e, you're taking something from me, when that's not the case at all.

No Way to Treat Old Glory: The American flag is not to be trifled with
http://www.nationalreview.com/artic...-protests-american-flag-deserves-more-respect
"The NFL players who kneel during the national anthem — a phenomenon that increased exponentially after President Donald Trump colorfully demanded that they stand — are disrespecting the most potent and enduring national symbol of the most patriotic nation on Earth...

The National Flag Conference of 1923 — yes, there was a national flag conference — set out the code subsequently adopted by Congress. Per the code, “the flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing.” It states that “no disrespect should be shown to the flag,” and when it is taken down, it should be placed into “waiting hands and arms.”

Some of the code is honored in the breach — it urges against using the flag on clothing or in advertisements — but it captures America’s passion for its flag. At times of crisis, the phrase “rallying around the flag” isn’t just a figure of speech. In one survey after the September 11 attacks, 80 percent of Americans reported that they were displaying it.

This is why the NFL kneelers are cutting against the American cultural grain, besides picking the wrong target on the merits.

The American flag isn’t a Confederate monument — indeed the opposite. Our military fights under it. The flag drapes the caskets of the fallen and is folded in a solemn ceremony at military funerals, with practically every movement fraught with religious and patriotic meaning.

It is not to be trifled with — unless you intend to insult the country for which it stands. When William Driver transferred control of his flag to Union troops, he is reported to have spoken “triumphantly, with tears in his eyes.” So many years later, Old Glory still elicits the same heartfelt sentiment. May it always."

Such an immature and provincial country, America, with its cultist veneration of idols. You probably have to look to the Middle East (or to Kopites) to find any remaining parallels. It's like how children imbue their stuffed toys with magic. Imagine being a grown man, and writing, led alone believing, medieval rubbish like this ^
