I believe in the right to free speech Pete and that applies just as much to Arabs as anyone else, including yours to be a WUM.

There is a long, long list of things I will be upset about ISIS for before I even think about their comments on the US.

I'm not acting as a WUM on this. A simple point, if you won't respect your own flag and anthem, why should anyone else. Just imagine if during an EU / USA meeting and the USA anthem was played, and some of the Europeans went down on one knee.......just please tell me what you would feel.....solidarity or disrespect........

What if there was some sort of website, a "search" "engine," which one could use to learn about a person before forming an opinion about them and spewing it all over the internet because one is lonely and bored?

I actually did that, but decided he was of no importance to the debate, but thanks for the technology update.....

Obviously, now perhaps you can explain it for me.......

Explain what?

Your sudden patriotism for the American flag?

Why ? Now without putting forward any further personal comments, please explain.....

You only credited the "last guys" views as credible. All people metioned in the three tweets are veterans.

You compared peaceful protest to an act of vandalism and warmongering.

So you can't explain it, I guessed......

It's just a flag......it doesn't mean anything.......overpaid footballers feel the pain.....

Such a weird country.

Nutters, absolute nutters.

So you can't explain it, I guessed......

What's left to explain Pete?

A young black man is protesting for civil rights and against police brutality against people of color on a national stage.

It's his right to do so.

The president called him a son of a bitch and told his bosses to fire him.

Now more are joining in on the protests.

I don't see taking the knee as disrespectful in the first place - it is certainly a hell of lot more respectful than ignoring it and chattering over it which the vast majority of people do in stadiums when even their own anthem/flag comes on or wearing it as a bikini. It would also provoke me to find out more about the subject they felt so strongly they needed to protest.

As for respect, I belive it is earned and if the only way you get it is by demanding it then that "respect " isn't worth a jot.

The flag is an American symbol for freedom. Even individuals who chose to protest against it are being patriotic--it's their free right to do so as Americans. Taking a knee during our national anthem was never meant to be a full-on sign of disrespect, which is why the NFL players went down on one knee. Did you read that NYT article written by one of the NFL protesters? Do so, as it explains their gesture.

ISIS doesn't even figure into the discussion. They don't care about our Bill of Rights, nor are they American citizens, nor are they "taking a knee". Their actions show that they are the enemy of pretty much everything except for their own narrow-minded warped world view, so their motivations for burning our flag (which, again, is really really really different from NFL players taking a knee during our anthem) are not rooted in patriotism, principles, or anything that has to do with this discussion. Japanese soldiers during WW2 routinely burned the US flag--it's what enemies do, they burn effigies/symbols of their opposition. But such actions are world's apart from an American black athlete raising his fist or taking a knee.

But back to my question. If a bunch of Europeans knelt down, or even some of them, while the anthem was being played, what really would you feel. No bullshit, no defending a point on an internet, how would you really feel........
