I think it is very sad that Americans have now found something else to fight about. Confederate flags, statues and now rich sportsmen dissing the Stars and Stripes....it's easy to forget your history and the price paid in blood by your own people to allow you to live the lives you currently do. Remember, the fall of Rome didn't happen overnight........
Gotta wait to have all the facts, though, when it comes to the "good people" in white robes and torches!
People paid the price of blood to allow "rich sportsmen" to diss the Stars and Stripes.
Rich sportsmen are not dissing the Stars and Stripes. You don't see them burning it, pissing on it or tearing it to shreds.
Protest of grievances by the government is fundamental to what the flag represents.

I assure you soldiers fought for the principle of freedom and knew they were doing so, even if some examples of freedom would be found by some individual soldiers to be distasteful. That's just how it works. And the fact that rich sports stars are making a stand is because--I assure you of this--they didn't come from wealthy backgrounds, and so they are now using their new-found status/popularity/wealth to get their cause noticed. The protest started as a means to bring attention not to them, but to non-sports stars. And the fact that you're complaining about it is proof-positive that it is working. That you find it self-indulgent doesn't matter one single bit; that's just your opinion.

They are not dissing the flag or anthem (and even if they are, so what) Originally it was to call attention to the systemic inequality in the treatment of POC particularly by police. I think now there is a bit of that as well as reaction to being told to pipe down by POTUS.
I'll add to @verreauxi point that many blacks paid the price of blood and life within our own borders at the hands of other Americans to even be allowed to be a rich sportsman let alone diss the flag. I am pretty sure they haven't forgotten -- although apparently many Americans have.
