I've never had the sense that you post in here in good faith, only that you're being deliberately provocative to wind people up. If that's really not the case, then I apologize.

Thank you, for it is not the case. My whole professional career was based on asking questions and looking at issues from all sides, that's why sometimes I will ask a 'stupid question' because you never know what will develop. I am also persistent, which I do agree can come across badly at times......

And there lies your problem. You make an assumption then project it to the nth degree culminating in an accusation of racism or suchlike. LinekersLegs posted a good article, perhaps you should read it.......

Fair enough. Here's the strange position you put me in: I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are not a racist, sexist, xenophobic, person who makes fun of the disabled, nor do you sympathize with these ideas, so I truly apologize for the insinuation, despite the fact that you support a President who is all of the aforementioned things.

The fact that I have to say things like "I'll give you the benefit of doubt..." is exactly what is the matter with this current political climate. And it is due to the bizarre political positions of folks, like you, who say things like "he's the better of two evils" or focus on a single foreign policy issue (e.g., North Korea), or the worn-out notion of give him a chance... How could one suggest that our current president who is an on-record racist, sexist, xenophobic, person who makes fun of the disabled is "better of two evils"? What am I supposed to make of this?

It depends upon what you want from your President. I have no time for Hilary Clinton who I believe should have been prosecuted regarding her emails. Also from a purely selfish point of view, she would have also thrown her weight behind the UK remaining within the EU and continued with Obamas anti UK rhetoric regarding trade and being the back of the queue. This to a country that is the USA's staunchest ally. Trump is an idiot and you will find I have said so on many occasions. He is however pro U.K.and at least recognises the bond between our two countries. Trump is undoubtedly sexist, but he's no Bill Clinton. He may be Xenophobic, but many just think he's patriotic and unashamedly for Americans. I've no idea what the making fun of the disabled is about, but as I say he's an idiot. Which brings us to the issue of Racism. He is a clumsy politician, he doesn't know how to control his media or his own image and he is terrible in front of the press, but I'm not sure he is a racist. His attempt at being even handed in the way he did showed up all of his failings, but he receives no slack from his opponents, he has been on the receiving end of some pretty bad abuse since his appointment and even now there are many who refuse to accept that he is the president.

What you make of my points is entirely down to how you read them and from the political viewpoint you adopt in doing so. You may not agree with them, but as I've said consistently I too abhore the violence from both sides in C'ville, violence of this nature achieves nothing and merely escalates division and intolerance. The USA appears deeply divided but while Trump receives all of the blame, and rightly for a lot of it, his opponents could do with looking in the mirror and being honest with themselves........

An excellent post from adamgottv in the 'far right' thread

I watched this on YouTube last night, thought it was rather objective and therefore I'd share it with you.

(I removed the video btw, Pete)

And when those 'dirty centrists' chat about the far left and the far right having similarities, I think most are referring to the tactics used by both sides tbh (and they have a point). Personally, when I think of the far left, I think of groups like Antifa who are pretty violent. An example being at Trump's inauguration when they set fire to an Iraqi immigrants limo because they assumed he was a wealthy Trump supporter, or in Chicago recently when they stormed a restaurant and battered a load of people who they accidentally misidentified as white supremacists.

My point being that Nazi’s are the worst people in the world but the media trying to paint every group on the left as being purer than pure doesn't help. I actually think that's the point what Trump was (badly) trying to make in the press conference the other day. I mean, his timing was off and I’m not denying he should have condemned those weird white supremacist lads straight off the bat, but he’s not wrong to point out how both of the fringe elements on the American right and left are escalating things in the US.

This descent into the politics of identity is all very concerning to me, I can't see how it's going to de-escalate at the moment and just when things are looking good for the bluez. Typical.

What makes this guy infuriating to many, and speaks volumes about our populace, is that not being an idiot should be prerequisite #1 to becoming President of the United States. People on the left mocked W as being an idiot, but that was more posturing/politics than anything else. I would bet that if you asked the adults to speak on the matter and left the crazies on the far left out of the room, they'd say as much.

However, Trump really is an idiot. A simpleton. A man that takes the old axiom that the simplest answer is most often correct to frightening levels.

He's not making this country better.

I don't want to hear excuses.

I think with Bush it was the hawkish neocons he surrounded himself with that painted him as their patsy, with this current batslapper no one has a clue from one day to the next who he has around him which is frightening because it just leaves him and his despotic nonfunctioning mind. That press conference the other day chilled my bones, he genuinely scared me.

Sorry Pete but this is pure bull.

See here you go again. You couldn't get people to sway to you point of view in the EU or not so you are using the US situation and drawing parallels and scenarios etc... with the two presidential candidates on a Trump thread instead.

You're obviously anti democrat because you "hate" both of their last two candidates. I suspect if you were American you'd be a republican/conservative. Your tone is absolutely one sided.

You say you dislike Trump also... Which i feel because people have done enough convincing to you that he is in fact an idiot you are changing your tune to accept their critique of him. Even though you started out the week saying he was unfairly treated and not as bad as people make him out.

Your obviously an apologist for him at the same time to agree with the both sides point of view without see further than the fact that the Nazi and KKK guys turned up to troll and create a manic situation and they have admitted in two different interviews they were ready for violence.

On the other hand the people there to protest them were largely peaceful and only reacted when provoked. Yes there was a small element of these leftists that wanted a fight also but your claim it was 'both side" just like Trumps is an exaggeration and really without context.

It seems like you are trying to be controversial or actually trying to push your pro brexit and anti EU rethoric here instead as people weree not being swayed by your constant posts and agenda over there.

4 people including myself have claimed now you are clearly trying to wind people up and you have claimed you are not but ask yourself why they think that? For a few months you have said little in this thread but in the last 4 days you have been on here pretty much 24hrs trying to stress your point and claiming you are all fact and no one has proven you wrong.

You seem like a decent lad and a sound lad so i have no ill feeling towards you at all i am merely pointing out what i see.

Have you considered that he is projecting exactly the image that he wants to and in fact is quite talented in doing it to his target audience? For a man who shoots his mouth off at whole host of things big and small white nationalists are one area, along with Russia, he has never ever rushed to condemn and when eventually done so has shown all the enthusiasm of going to the dentist.

Why exactly should anyone give him slack on his racial comments - every time he has talked about the sensitive issue he has been offensive. I genuinely cannot think of a single instance when he hasn't, especially on his Twitter feed which as we all know is the window into his actual feelings. Why not provide one if you believe that not to be the case?

When out of say 10 opportunities to address an issue and you flunk spectacularly at every one why do you think it is going to be any better at try #45? He'll probably get it right by sheer accident at some point but that doesn't erase the very extensive papertrail.

"Beautiful"

I really hate them using the "can't change history, but you can learn from it" phrase. There are better ways to remmeber history and discuss it etc...

1st of the racists and kkk and pro confederate people use that all of the time so it tells you something about Trump.

2nd If you see in German schools they don't forget their history in fact they teach their kids in depth about the Nazi's and make them own it as part of a dark past. They clearly don't erect statues to "remind" people. That's what museums are for.

Oh and before someone says but they were not like the nazis.... yes i get that part but they were traitors to their country and fought their fellow man on a battle field over slavery. So... That and the people marching to save the statues identify themselves as kkk and nazis so..
