My point being that if you believe that the war was about slavery and the black population, why did very little change in the following 100 years......100 years is a very long time to enact beliefs...
The war was about politics. Specifically the politics of slavery.
The north had abolished slavery. The south relied on slavery for their economic engine. The north felt like slavery was an abhorrent practice. The south feared for their economic ruin, so we had the Missouri Compromise - every time a new state was added, it needed a partner so we could have a perfect balance of 'slave' states and 'free' states. This did not end the conflict of course, but simply delayed it a few decades.
The south seceded because of the fear that the Free States/Lincoln were going to officially abolish slavery, crippling the southern economy. War broke out. A few years into the war, Lincoln emancipated the slaves in the rebel southern states.
This story has been used by Southern apologist through the past 150 years to say the war wasn't about 'slavery' but was about 'economics'. Which is true, yet still disingenuous.
For the actual government and common people of the North, the war was about politics - not making the lives of the oppressed better. What happened after the war was not a product of the same forces that caused the war. The Reconstruction was an utter s-show, and the various tensions that came to a head in 1861 were never fully dealt with.
Also, anyone creating an equivalency between actual, honest to god Nazi's, and BLM/leftist groups dedicated to trying to extend freedom and equality to all people rather than the historical patrician class is either horrifyingly misinformed, stupid, or evil.
