New York City saw continued reductions in overall crime through the first quarter of 2024, both above ground, on streets throughout the five boroughs, and below ground, within the nation’s largest subway system. The single month of March 2024, compared to the same month last year, experienced even more drastic crime declines.
Cmon @Zatara see him off

If you look at the punishments for crypto crimes compared with banking crimes its extremely disproportionate. Where there are victims then of course the crime and punishment should be the same for all.

For the case against Trump inflating values of assets...its not like he provided a personal valuation and the banks agreed. They have their own assessors who would provide their own valuation.

Thats common sense, no one provides a valuation to a bank in any city ive heard of and the bank simply agrees and ticks a box. Thats why it certainly seems off piste and why the banks had no problems -- only the democtats.

In the second situation under an NDA apparently these mean nothing anymore in NYC. Not to mention that tax advisors and attorneys would be the ones approving the documentation -- its not solely the 'evil Trump'. The pornstar put on a different performance to previously and was allowed to roam massively off topic by the judge.

That to me also seems extremely unfair and not neutral. Trump was found guilty before he walked into the courtroom. It was obvious.

I meantioned Florida before and businesses are moving or already moved there and to parts of Texas -- out of NYC.

Who really cares when living and working in a city that there are some white collar criminals? Miami had a really dodgy repuation and now it seems like NYC and Miami have swapped.

But really the perception of NYC now is definitely to the point of being 'unsafe'.

With London, I went there not too long ago and found it to be the same as always. The only difference was that there were more places that English wasnt a first language with customer facing staff. Thats new.

Everyone i met there did tell me before going to have my wits about me and that i would hate what its become. During my trip they would prod me and say "see its changed so much"...not really.

This lawyer is talking about the 'letter of the law' but to do that he could also explain why it was only the democratic party pushing to file charges? Not anyone else, even the FBI who looked at the case and didnt proceed...why have many others not been charged like this and trump singled out?

Imagine how anti-Trump that jury would be. Just on the law of averages there would be a majority that hate Trump in that location -- thats not a neutral jury...not to mention the judge who was clearly a democrat.

This isnt me making up a story to support trump, those are as close to facts as you'll find.
Basically, you have just told the world what we already know, that you haven't got a clue about this. it's just guesswork.

Give it up, man, you're just embarrassing yourself even further.

Wow thanks for sharing this. As I said, im going on 'image' and 'perception' as an outsider.

I do have a question on this...if the city is now 'soft on crime' and many criminal activities are downgraded to 'misdemeanours' then while those offenders in the past would be recorded.

Surely now those type of crimes would not be recorded?

I was there around 2008 when it was a ghost town in manhattan. Still of course an interesting experience but not what I was expecting.

The city came to life at night inside restaurants, bars and clubs but otherwise the financial crisis really had a major impact. Asia was still busy and i was quite shocked...

Agree on NYC being resilient, it seems to have peaks and troughs.

I had video calls with both democrats and republicans during covid. All decided to stay and luckily no one i know suffered.

Interestingly, the more 'salt of the earth' types have been telling me since covid that things have been going downhill while those from 'upper class / family money' dont seem to notice any difference.

The foreigners i know who lived there have all now moved away, some to London and others to Asia.

Los Angeles seems to be going through a negative process as well while Miami which was previously known to be dodgy as hell...looks to be going up and fast.

Its not unheard of for branded residences to sold out very very quickly in major cities but the 'new' Mandarin Oriental residences in both cities is still selling slowly...while the hotel group are building an enormous hotel and residences in Miami as their North American showpiece.

Waldorf Astoria also in NYC has seen slow residential sales and is also opening in Miami.

The outside perception seems to be rather negative at the moment.
Long winded way of saying ‘I was wrong’

If working class people and foreigners are leaving, it's because of the crazy cost of living.
Not because it's turned in to a dangerous craphole.
NYC is doing just fine if you can afford it.

The perception you talk about is the same that peteblue was going on about re. the trial.
It's basically a right wing scaremongering POV and I'd either pay no attention to it or change up where you get your views because it's not accurate.

edit- Eric Adams seems like a bit of a plonker tho.

I think we'll see in the elections. The 'working class' people i know are not short of cash as theyve been successful and the foreigners are beyond loaded.

Both groups far far far beyond my means.

Their opinions on the City changed quite drastically.

Yep, pure guesswork

I'm sure Zatara's sentiment comes from the same place as the people living in rural UK who have never travelled to modern London, but all seem to have opinions about how it's become a crime-ridden wasteland under Khan's watch.

There's also something peculiar about the way the people who lean to the right equate all crime to 'street crime' and are happy to give passes to the sort of massive frauds and thefts that educated white collar workers can carry out from the comfort of their office chairs.
Yep, steals to survive - send them down. Embezzles millions on top of their existing wealth - it is crypo's fault.

ah america, the image and perception I have is that they all work at the nuclear plant, drink duff, hang about at a bar run by some gargoyle named Moe, and are known to be a little glutenous.

I commit to this understanding totally 'cos I've seen it on tv!

The rampant meanderings of a sunstroke affected mind. It's crypto's fault now. Sort me a kebab please.

Why even post such rubbish.

If you knew a fair amount of people living and working in a City. Both working and upper class, local and foreign who gave you opinions....and you had been there....and the place was frequenly in the media and on the screen

Thats a pretty good place to have an understanding.

If you knew anything about white collar crime you would know traditional financial markets and crypto crime are punished disproportionately.

Just the same as in the case of Trump where others have not been punished to this extent who no doubt are doing the same or worse.

Its all common sense...you seem to post depending on your feelings. Not logic.
