Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

What a clown show. And it's only just beginning.

We have a president that can't stop responding to any criticism via Twitter.

This isn't a movie. This is really happening.

I'm of two minds about this. He's either going to be the worst President in history (and maybe the last) because he's entirely unqualified and unprepared and makes terrible choices, or he's simply going to be a poor, wasteful President because he's entirely unqualified and unprepared and makes no choices.

Quite the opposite, I respected these people in spite of their political views because usually there is more to a person than their political beliefs but Trump transcends politics in a scary way. He uses distraction and fear to bypass the normal political system. This is what draws the Rome analogies.

The fall of Rome (strictly speaking, the fall of the Roman Republic) analogy isn't that, though. The parallel comes when senior people go around claiming that someone's victory, won in a way that was legal and fair, didn't and shouldn't matter and that "we have to do something about it".

I think he's the first politician in recent history as stupid as the people who elected him. A real people's president!

I would see the analogy as money corrupting power. By the end of democracy in Rome, the Senate was run by the wealthiest, it was pretty much possible to buy a seat. The gulf between the wealthy politicians and the masses grew too large. The wealth gap was too large and the wealthy politicians turned factions of the poor against each other in order to distract them. This eventually led to the collapse of democracy. Society became so fractured that the imposition of authoritarian rule became possible. I can definitely see parallels.

And yet....

Many or even most presidents (with far more charm than DT) have been responsible for killing 10s or 100s of thousands of innocent people in ill advised wars and unnecessary military actions.

Trump talks sexism but many presidents have had a covertly misogynistic attitude to women or groomed them to sleep with them.

Trump talks racism but many or most presidents have done nothing in practice to advance things for black Americans (the shameful neglect of the New Orleans/Louisiana population at the time of the hurricane/floods being the most strikingly horrific example in my recent memory)

Trump is ugly and talks ugly, but will he be any worse than the rest? Only time will tell.

yup.

There are a few who will always vote red no matter who runs.
There are a few that hated Hillary Clinton with the kind of venom I haven't seen before
There are a few who liked what he said about Mexico paying for a wall along with other ridiculous claims
There are a few who agreed with his stance on Trade and TTP
There are a few who blame the democrats for the gridlock on the hill and think he'll drain the swamp.
Most are a combination of some of those.

Some friends were sharing info wars links on my Facebook page, reasonable people sharing what Alex Jones has to say.
Economically, there's a slim chance he might do ok but for me, the office is a whole lot more than that.
His inexperience with foreign affairs scares me but most of all his demeanor and attitude are no where near befitting of the office.
He's already making a mockery of the roll.

This times 1,000

Rome was never a democracy, and under the Republic the Senate was always occupied by the wealthy and powerful.

We can debate what he'll do or not do policy-wise. In a lot of ways, that doesn't even matter, as the POTUS is a largely figurehead position.

But why so many are petrified of this guy is that he doesn't even pretend to be "presidential".

People voted for him b/c he was not the usual politician. OK, I get it. But that doesn't mean that you do a 180 and go for the dude flinging spitballs from the back of the classroom.

Agree but with the exception that he most likely will not make thing economically better. The housing market will absolutely collapse again. He is going to take away all the regulations that limited the fees that realtors/mortgage brokers could charge for pretty much no reason. Those were put in place several years ago which helped rebuild the market. Just one of a few reasons, and housing/realty is supposed to be his claim to fame, too.

You could very well be right, I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt in the one area he has some experience. Obama has left him a great starting point but, like other areas, I fear he'll stuff it up!
