I can't help but feel that it won't matter. The Republicans are too close to the island to swim back, Trump has made treachery and turd eating lunacy so normal now that there is effectively nothing the cowards will impeach him for

He's fantastic tv if anything. I'd imagine the debates will smash the ratings.

Was listening to "For The Love of Richard Nixon" by The Manics recently

I doubt Trump will have such a song in 30 years or so

Subtle difference being that Nixon was a complicated guy with a complicated legacy. He was a principled politician, an excellent diplomat but completely devoid of any social skills, had no interests outside politics and his ambition led him to scupper a peace deal that could have ended the Vietnam war in order to get elected president before bringing him down with Watergate. However, he did reintroduce China to world diplomacy, economically he was pretty good and cooled the cold war some as well.

Trump is, by contrast, nothing more than a buffoon with no nuance or complexity to him whatsoever.

I watched the press conference for the "War On Cancer" bill a few days ago (After it was mentioned in The Manics song)

Nixon seemed sincere, spoke well and even cracked some jokes

I can't ever imagine Trump handling such an occasion with such aplomb

My favourite Nixon attempts to be human moment is the story of him making small talk with David Frost before their first interview.

"So David, did you do any fornicating this weekend?"

Oh, great piece in the Atlantic yesterday written by Kelly Anne Conway's husband.

Dinnertime must have been fun at their place last night.

I don’t understand how that relationship dynamic can exist without the whole thing being a bit of a joke to them?

maybe they just don't talk politics?

Maybe she sees her role as reigning in his worst instincts?

Maybe she's genuinely motivated by duty and couldn't turn down the opportunity to serve?

Or more likely she's a power hungry maniac.

The debates will be weird.

Trump is held to so much of a lower standard than any other politician (by both his supporters and the media) that he could (and will) get battered senseless in the debates - just like he did last time - and it won’t shift the line noticeably.

The Ukraine story is the clearest case of Presidential corruption in living memory (including Nixon/Watergate) and it’s only moved his approval numbers down by a couple of %.

2020 is about turnout, turnout, turnout.

TBF it would explain a lot if she comes home every night and tells George what is actually going on. In fact it’s a bit mad that Trump has never got rid because surely someone as paranoid as him must have wondered where George gets his inspiration from.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest Trump isn't reading the Atlantic.

TBF, he doesn't mention his wife once in the article and is at pains to point out he has never met Trump for more than 5 minutes.
