Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

Finn is often too far on one side, but then your posts these last couple of days are too far the other way. It's like a microcosm of the whole us & them thing which has defined debate these last 12 months.

It's tempting to post passionately about something one really believes in, it's an emotive energy that people instinctively can get behind. But I honestly don't think such debate methods help our understanding in any meaningful way.

More cool neutrality, more nuanced analysis, is required if any of us wish to understand the bigger picture.

Get over yourself, lad. I've seen more than enough evidence to convince me that Trump is not worthy of the office. Call me old-fashioned but I like my world leaders to be above tantrums and petty vendettas, to act not on impulse or malice but in a calm, reasoned way, to not engage in racially charged demagoguery, and not to be a known bully and a sexual predator.

yes, wisdom is rarely in the exact geometric centre between two opposing viewpoints, even if this passes for some as sophistication. it does have a sort of soothing, new-agey, "you can both be right" sort of appeal, i suppose.

some things are just plain bad though, and Donald Trump being the most powerful person in the world is one of them.

Do you prefer your world leaders to bomb sovereign states and attempt to affect regime changes? Do you prefer them to punish rather than support whistleblowers? If they do this while maintaining an air of calm professionalism is this then acceptable to you?

Have you heard of the phrase the banality of evil?

Agreed that fence-sitting isn't necessarily wisdom nor correct. But disagree that Trump is nailed-on bad news for US and the world. I think Obama spoiled us with his style-over-substance schtick.

Personally just don't find it productive to keep focussing on perceived personality defects and irrelevant vote counts. We'd be better off analysing his coming policies and their potential effects, no?

When power is as concentrated in one man's hands as it is with the American Presidency, the personality of the man is hardly trivial.

Regarding coming policies and effects, Trump has so far turned the government over to climate change-deniers, lobbyists, Goldman Sachs, and Paul Ryan, the latter three despite his voters' explicit intentions - as is well-documented not least of which in this thread.

At a certain point, insisting that it could all still be okay, especially if you were concerned about the plight of low income constituents under Obama, is just disingenuous or naive.

When a train is hurtling down the track towards you, you generally don't need to wait until its molecules make literal contact with yours before you can start to sense you might be in trouble.

Hombre, if you think Trump (Donald Trump, for God's sake!) would be any different on any of those counts then you are more naive than even I thought.

Boom!

Wow! I thought the problem was the exact opposite. You even replied to me today about it: that Obama couldn't affect much positive change as his hands were often tied.

But now that it's Trump's turn, suddenly he's the man with all the power? Trump has some very unpopular policies planned if you're a hawkian Republican, and also if Democrats regroup and regain some influence he may find his hands just as tied as Obama's were.

But I get it: one rule for Obama, another rule for Trump. One can deport 3 million illegals without criticism, and one cannot.

Goldman Sachs? You mean this Goldman Sachs?

But I get it, it's ok if Hilary involved herself with them, but not ok if Trump does it.

If Hilary won, would you not even see the train then?

I don't think he will be, I hope he will be and will watch what happens with interest.
