Not raging, probably just not experts like you 2 are. I will strive to be as knowledgeable and righteous as you 2 though!

Probably would be worth your time to educate yourself on the subject. When you understand when they were built, who built them, and why they were built in the first place you will have a better understanding of why they belong in a museum.

I would suggest learning about:

-The United Daughters of the Confederacy
-The Children of the Confederacy
-The Lost Cause of the Confederacy
-The KKK
-Jim Crow Laws
-The Civil Rights Movement

Hope you learn something.

or free tommy the freedom fighter?

isn't he like an actual mod now on the other forum?

Honestly, US history as taught here glosses over our low points such as treatment of Native Americans, slavery, etc.

My ammie friend was shocked when I told him the Soviets invaded & conquered Berlin in 1945 to end the war. His schooling never mentioned that and instead gave the impression the US to all intents & purposes conquered Germany.

He's from Mississippi if that makes a difference...

It is better than calling all Europeans foes but this statement about zero farm subsidies has all the sincerity of a New Year “I’m going to lose 20lbs by the summer” promise and even less likelihood of happening. But if this flimsy agreement means Trump backs away from escalating tariffs it would be great.

TBH even that flimsy agreement goes way beyond what anyone will be happy for Juncker to talk about in a negotiation with the US, especially the agricultural / standards issue.

That said, the mention of "increased trade in services" should be a helpful poke in the eye for the Brexiteers.

Honestly I think many Americans think we just dropped a couple bombs on Japan and the whole thing was over

You come across as very patronising,
Take a look at
- British open founders of USA TP Hughes
- French/Spanish influence southern states, ucla
- Sharpsburg truth confederate view
- why confederation happened and what it meant. Iowa sentinal

Without going to google I wouldn’t know, but I do know it’s a deep ingrained part of US history, don’t need to be a nerdy historian to know that. But I’m pretty sure the so called winners should not be able to tear down and desecrate the history of the southern people

Many of the statues are on government owned property...that very same government that the men in the statues committed treason against.
Stick them in a museum for the historical background of the Jim Crow south since that is when they were erected.

Independent voters are voters who don't vote along party lines. They vote on the candidate with whom they like the best.

Even I have voted for a Republican before.

It would depend how old these statues were, and for what purpose they were built, and what they now represented.

I've no problem calling these statues something else if not historical remnants, it's a minor semantic argument.

I'm not anyone's backup in that sense, matey. I'm often in disagreement with many on here, but I like to believe I'm able to think neutrally (like a historian, researcher or scientist would) so hopefully am able to see both arguments. So sometimes you'll make a good point and I'll 'back you up' on that, but other times you'll make a weak argument and I'll call you out on that too.

I've learnt something new these last couple of days, honestly didn't know much about what support for the confederates might mean. Our fellow blues have put in solid arguments, I'm inclined to side with that for now. But it would be useful to hear from conservative US blues.

Fair distinction.
Ruairi makes the key point. Never forget. When you destroy evidence like these statues, you are in danger of unintended consequences thwarting your noble goals.

Careful examination will show that many of these statues were erected not immediately post-bellum but in the first twenty years of the 20th century, when the old War veterans were dying off and a much needed spirit of live and let live was unfortunately contemporary with the very lowest period of Jim Crow in the American South. These factors combined to sprout dozens of marble and bronze reminders of the men who embodied the final proud defeat of the Confederacy in its futile yet courageous effort to extend the old era of land slavery and feudalism past its date of expiration. Leave it and tell the entire story. These were ferocious warriors in service to an ignoble cause. Fear them. Remember them.

Be accurate. Tell the whole truth.

In a museum.
