I showed my ignorance earlier on it tbh. I reckon it's highly possible that there are many Americans who aren't that up on their history and the implied message of the flag. They just like the look of it or something. Obvs there are many more who know rightly well what it conveys

Absolutely and school curriculum is determined at the state and county level. You can guess the slant the civil war gets in the deep south. Confederacy was a noble states rights cause.

Honestly, US history as taught here glosses over our low points such as treatment of Native Americans, slavery, etc.
