Why is it ideal if it remains compartmentalized from the Trump investigation? Bill Clinton was originally investigated for Whitewater and Ken Starr eventually ended up talking about a blue dress and a cigar, people found it easy enough to differentiate between the two issues and not sure why this would be much different.
What info that we currently know gives you concern that the threshold isn’t being maintained?
Whilst I aren’t as worried given the particular target of the FBI wiretaps I share the concern as a general issue - I just think if FBI wiretaps are being abused they are far more likely to be between an average citizen/immigrant and their lawyer rather than the sitting US president. I think there are a lot of improvements that could be made to the criminal justice system in this country but doubt that the politicians and their associates of either party are the most at risk from any current errors and excesses - Joe Arpaio being a prime example.

Because Bill was targeted as a player in both? Like I said, the Cohen thing is done already, I would hope they didn't wiretap him, personal attorney for the President, solely for the Stormy Daniels fiasco. But so far that's all I know of, and it seems like if there is more on Cohen, it would likely be unrelated to POTUS.

I wouldn't bother.
But Trump could be targeted as a player in both of these, we won’t know his full involvement until the investigation is complete so why not just wait and see what happens?
Similarly with the wiretap, this is just one report and it would not be the first time there were claims of tapping Trump phones that came to nothing.
However if there was a wire tap the lawyers I follow on both sides of the political aisle seem to believe that a past transgression wouldn’t be enough, it would have to be something current and to target the presidents lawyer you’d guess there would be something serious as there are several safety mechanisms to prevent abuse
Could it be improper, sure, but unless you believe that there should never be any investigation into anyone surrounding a president I think we need more information to even consider that conclusion.
I find your statement “it would likely be unrelated to POTUS” a pretty big leap of faith in any politician let alone Trump.
