Does Moyes' reign look better with hindsight given the dismal performances of his successors?

A dullard who achieved nothing in 11 years. As for the "we played some decent stuff at times"...if you can count those performances on one hand over the course of a decade that sort of defeats the claim in the assertion.

He killed United, Sociedad, Sunderland and almost killed West Ham. An appalling manager.

Pretty sure Sociedad were in the same position when he left as when he started - and West Ham were in a better one.

...last 6 seasons, last 5 seasons, last 4 seasons. Very selective. His successor needed just 10 months to bury Moyes' points record.

Oh, and he all but relegated us "achieving" 17th.

Stats eh?

I may have cherry picked the 6 years to include a 65 point season and make a round 60 points but even the worse comparison for Moyes has him averaging 59 points in his final 5 years versus 55.2 in the 5 subsequent years including the greatest season ever under Roberto where we won the 5th placed trophy.

Yes. He’s been our best manager since Royle by a country mile. He actually bought footballers like Arteta Pienaar Baines Coleman Lescott Yakubu Donovan Mirallas yet somehow has a worse reputation on here than the absolute buffoons who followed him and stock piled the squad with crabs like Williams Schneiderlin Kone Atsu etc.

A lovely list of 8 players that Moyes brought in over ten years and then using garbage players to make your point. Don’t forget about the dross Moyes also brought in. Every manager can make a decent signing. Even Allardyce got us Walcott and tosun who regardless of people’s thoughts towards tosun, were two of our best players since January.

I'd rather have had that one season of good football under Martinez than the average table positions and muck served up in 11 years of Moyes.

We got 4th with a horrendously average team. You’re picking specific squads there but overall the Top 6 are miles ahead of us now.

Yeah because we’ve regressed! The top 6 aren’t better quality wise than the ones Moyes faced over his tenure. They may be relative to the rest of the league but the achievement in 05 by Moyes can’t just be written of as ‘the top 4 wasn’t as strong’. That season alone Moyes was up against a Chelsea side that until City held the prem record, the Arsenal Invincibles we’re defending champions, and a Liverpool side who would win the CL. Only City out of the top 6 now could compete with the top 4 in that period from 05-10.

He was a good manager, made some great buys in the transfer market.
Huge shame he behaved how he did towards the end and made some very distasteful comments after his departure.

Yes, for sure, i hoped we would improve when he left but we have gone backwards and under easier circumstances. Over the time Moyes did do well and often with zero to spend

Manager of the year 3 times. Fergie won 4. We only stopped conceding goals near the end of last season when Jags, Baines and Coleman back.
Left 5 years and defence reliant on the one Moyes left.
