Do we need a new striker?

Anichebe has been incredible this season.

This has to be the most incredible post I've ever seen here. I'm gonna try it myself:

Osman's been a phenomenon this season. And when Barkley's come on he's looked absolutely world-class. And Seamus? Ye gods! There are no words fit to describe how amazing Seamus Coleman has been this season.

Am I doing it right?

Anichebe will not be a quality Premier League player while I've got a hole in my backside.

Incredible??? He was average (again) at very best, and sunderland game onwards seems to have got back into the falling over and whinging at the ref histrionics of previous seasons.

Top striker and a powerful midfielder are a necessity this summer, but I won't hold my breath

The Death Of The Superlative, mate...hyperbole rules, and everyone's doing it.

Bollocks, I say.

The last "incredible" player I saw in our blue was Wayne Rooney. Before him it was Neville Southall. Even Arteta, who was often outstanding and in the odd game even world-class, was never "incredible".

We should protect our language.

I think we need a striker, wether that be a loan signing like Lukaku or get him in a swap for Felli or we sign someone like Cornelius, Finnbogason, Wilfried Bony or Negredo?!.

But i think if Felli does leave this summer, we need to replace him with a Coutinho type player IMO. We need someone who can create centrally and pick out and play the kind of through balls that he does that strikers with good movement and like to play on the shoulder thrive on!.

I do feel we are too reliant on our wide play and more often than not do try at every opportunity to work the ball wide, mainly down the left, to create our chances but it would be nice to have some creativity in central areas.

Playing Felli up there behind a striker can work and he does well but he basically plays like a target man up there and when we go long, he brings the ball down and brings the midfield into play or he lays it out wide, which isnt a bad thing, but he's not a player to control the ball, turn on it and look to feed the striker.

This summer we do need a striker to add to ranks but i think some creativity in the centre of midfield, especially in the role behind the front man, we do need a clever, creative type player but i think we can only do all those things, buy a striker and a midfielder, if we sell Felli.

Pretty sensible thoughts amigo. But proven prolific strikers, particularly young ones, cost top dollar. Using Sturridge and Fletcher as a rough guide, neither Lukaku nor Benteke will be available for less than £15m - in fact I think neither will go for less than £20m. Remy's release clause makes him more affordable, but his wages are likely to be prohibitive. If Negredo is as good as some on here believe, why would he be available for any less than Lukaku or Benteke?

If we accept that the squad itself needs to become bigger, as well as there being a requirement for more quality and creativity, then what little money is available must be spent wisely, even if we bring in £30m by selling Felli. There is a chance that a better midfield will bring out more in Anichebe and Jelavic, but I don't see how better strikers will improve Gibson, Pienaar or Osman's performances; additionally midfielders generally cost a little less than strikers.

Put another way, presuming we sell Felli would you rather:

1) Sign Remy and one of either Benteke, Lukaku or Negredo; or

2) Sign Nani, Fer, Honda, Weimann and Remy?

We badly need a striker with pace and goals, Jela looks like he's never played football before these days

This is what I would do -

Sell Fellaini, use what TV cash we can (hopefully £30m+ in total) and bring in Leroy Fer, Jelle Vossen, Lescott and Negredo.

Remy wont come he's a money grabber who will end up at Liverpool guaranteed, Brenda loves his small pacey forwards in his little gay 3 up top formation.

I think the way we've run out of steam this season shows we need more than a striker. Two strikers, a winger, a midfield player, and a central defender. I think we only need one midfielder with Barkley likely to come into his own at some point next season, and I'd say no to Lescott. A young defender would be fine, I think Distin has a season or two left in him.

Cover for Miralles and Peanuts for when they're either injured, or totally off form is also crucial for me.

Jelly's gotta go, I think he was most definitely a one season wonder from what I've seen. He looks utterly hopeless, and I don't think that's just to do with a lack of confidence. I think some of his goals last season were lucky ones, and I can't see his luck turning next season.

I'd rather see us keep hold of Fellaini, and drop him back to midfield. Despite the money he'd bring in, I think a club that wants to be in the CL should be looking to keep him.

all depends on Redcoat I would personally sell Felli tbh he looks and sounds like he wants a move to a CL club so sell while we can get top dollar for him. Between him, Jelly and Heitinga we could get around £35 mil to invest in the squad but Moyes should also demand atleast 50% of the new TV deal on top of that.

1x ST Negredo/Lukaku
1x CAM Weimann- can also play ST and LM
2x CM Sissoko/Fer/Diame
1x CB ???

But when he showed the effort he put in today we should be happy to get rid of him . He was just strolling about and going in half heart . Lets be honest hasnt being on form since january so we wont miss him much . People jizz to much about him yes he got us a few goals but he hasnt carryed that form on so hes not world class yet . Get rid of fellani and heitinga and bring in fer honda lescott a striker negredo might be too expensive but that adem ljajic looks okay for 7 million and bring in a loan winger . Or a swap deal with chelsea for lukaku on loan and de bruyne perm and use the tv money to get fer

Needd atleast 2 strikers. Vic can be a decent impact sub, but Jelavic is embarrassing and has to go

Agree with you about Lescott - we need to be looking at younger players (Duffy?) in this position.

Can't agree at all with your observation about Jelavic being "lucky". I can't explain his loss of form this season any more than anyone else, but trying to rewrite history is certainly not an explanation.
